+1 was only discussing this with someone last week. it also seemed to lead to all kinds of sneaky goings on.

drug smuggling , arms dealing and so on.

    id be up for that

just like been a towny but abroad lol

selling knock off dvds fake watch's, pimpin, robbin post offices, the list is endless

selling information to the highest bidder, manipulating the situation to your own ends, why does a mix of spooks and body of lies come into my head...

on a more series side, i have to say larping has got my eye recently, i;ve really enjoyed playing roles in skirmish's and i believe a well played role can really add to the experience for all

Hey guys, just a quick heads up.

I have been chatting to Olli the SRP commander from B7 and if and I do mean "IF" I return to B8 then I will be doing so as a SRP member, and hopefully a SRP platoon commander.

You guys do what you need to do but I have served NATO for 2 years now and I am thinking that I need to try something new. But naturally I would prefer to be commanding a platoon of Irish players within the SRP.

It's a tough call and would require alot more consideration...it has its ups but it has its downs too.

What would really be intersting, and I don't know if it's what I would like to see, would be if we were all seperated and on different teams.

Seems all my gear is OD I doubt they'll let me on the NATO side. Not worried what side I'm on once I get to rob a bank and mug a few old ladies.. :D

I'll go with the flow and side with the rest of the Irish...

Sounds like fun. I wasn't wild about the idea of buying yet another uniform. But it's a long way off yet...

You're going to dip him in margerine?

... airsoft just took a very peculiar twist in my opinion.

    I meant Russian Flora Camo

I think next year will get, interesting...

The Irish players have a great reputation at Berget. After next year it will just be a reputation! A bank of back stabbing civvies, untrustworthy mercs and bank robbing/granny pushing NATO forces... :D

We can either act Full Metal Jacket or Apocalypse Now, I know what has my vote!

Just drop the irish platoon in as a rogue platoon, broken away and out for blood and money.

I just want to be the bad guy for once...I might even use an AK :O shock of it all.

To think that I was humming and haughin about going back next year, I'm swetting for the ticket release for Berget 8 already.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

Tbh I wont be going NATO next year if I go back. I'm thinking about it a little and I kinda like the idea of playing the civilians over anyone else

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

What I think is the worst part is that if the Nato role and been played properly, to the letter, I think it would have been really fun.

Unfortunately, people kept opening up on Nato for the sake of it, and as we all know, some Nato players weren't interested in the LARP.

    Just something to consider.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

Yea, the Nato role wasn't understood very well, from both sides, from reading the berget forums, the other factions seem to have been attacking Nato because they had previously been attacked by certain Nato sections who failed to comply with the RoE

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Yeah, I honestly expected less fire fights playing as Nato.

Must have been the Warsaw Pact.

Yeah I was very much expecting convoy protection details and the likes.

Very dissapointed, one of the things i was looking forward to most was working protection detail in the city for the vote, and that got ****ed up.

I'd be all up for an enforced larp on EVERYONE.....more I think about it the more it was just a big skirmish in sweden. There was no advantage for anyone to larp, what use is it to us if the commanders and chief of staff are larping the jaxie of themselves, if we are just sitting out at tents, doing **** all etc.

Ian if you need a special protection detail call me, run of the mill section command or grunt work is just not appealing enough for me to go back when i think bout it :(

Ditto me. I would have been more than happy working checkpoints and protecting convoys and peacekeeping for the 3 days.

Although that'd be more the UN's cup of tea...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

Working the checkpoint at the NATO base was the only amount of LARP role that we got, but it was some of the most enjoyable time I had at Berget, without even firing a single shot.
It was interesting to interact with civilians and having to escort them to see our CO etc... but also very intense at times, knowing it could all kick off at any moment.

Later on, with several attacks on the checkpoint, some of us had to reinforce those already working at the checkpoint, some of the best firefights we had.

I think I just love LARP....does that make me gay? :)

I would defo love to see more of that **** here at home, even saluting my superiors over there at times just gave me a lil kick, total imersion....surprised I didnt give an order to pillage some local town in fairness >:D

Last year I was happy, this ... I have no words :(
If next year Berget crew dont change rules, dont make them more precise and mainly dont force players to obey them, I will not go :-( I dont want be witnessing NATO robbed the bank, twice, I dont want to see more than 30 YOM be shooted from back and after couple of second start playing again as nothing happen, same NATO "Italiano Terminatore squadronne", not to mention hi-caps and springs from truck suspensions inside rifles ... and NUKE (for cry out loud, who invented in game such a stupid thing?)
There was couple a good moment for me, but if I counted pros and cons it was deeply below zero :(

Yeah I'd second some of your points, however not the bank one. I feel that is great, people taking advantage of the open world enviroment.

However what I thought was piss poor was how they just walzed back into the nato camp, and nothing happend. They should have been arrested, court marshalled, or gone renegade, with a NATO unit sent out to aprahend them or something "good".

If reading the berget forum is anything to go by, it seems my first berget event was the worst : / I still thought it was immense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 371 ✭✭plastic_axe

as it was pointed out to me at the event, if you want to go rogue within the rules you need an armband that's non nato.
worth bringing a backup maybe :)

has anyone seen photos of india in bashir city with the penis totem???

Yeah but then it wouldn't be Nato robbing the bank would it?
    It'd be some other team.

The penis totem was from the beer party, you were there weren't you?

i mean for when you get arrested/leave nato as a result of a bank robbery.
then you'd need to change armband.

i was there and there was a load of cameras but i can't find any pics of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

I have one or two, they're not very good.

It seems my camera was also very drunk.

Not sure if i'll be going next year. i loved berget 6 but this year was a real killer for me with the heat and the bites.
but like others, i'll not be on nato again if i do go back.
srp or civvies and pricing how much to rent a air conditioned campervan.

    Still great fun though
