Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Downtownsounds is proud to announce the return of super producer Ashley Beedle to Irish shores for an exclusive, one off solo DJ gig. Best known as a member of the bigroom busting Xpress 2 collective, Ashley rarely finds time to do one of his famed 'freestyle' sets.


    A self confessed 'dead ass soul boy', Ashley began dj-ing in the early 80's, playing soul, reggae and disco with the Shock soundsystem, who later became one of the first crews in the UK to play house music. Shock went on to run the famously dark, dirty and dangerous acid house parties at Clink Street, and Beedle began to experiment with making his own music. He formed X-Press 2 with fellow Dj's Rocky and Diesel,first breaking through with the massive 'Music Xpress' in 1992. 'Lazy', their 2003 collaboration with David Bryne of 'Talking Heads, reached no 2 in the UK charts and they have rocked the world's biggest and best clubs from London's Fabric to Pacha in Ibiza with their awesome 6 deck sets.

    Beedle's mid 90's work as part of Black Science Orchestra brought kudos from legends like Frankie Knuckles and Masters at Work, with 'Where Were You' and 'New Jersey Deep' going on to become stone cold deep house classics, still sounding fresh after all these years.

    He has recorded under a host of aliases, producing the timeless downtempo groover that is 'Blacker Than Thou' as Ballistic Brothers, delving deep into black music history on his 'Black Jazz Chronicles' project for Nuphonic, paying tribute to legendary disco dj/producer Walter Gibbons under the East Village Loft Society moniker, as well as making a thoroughbred DTS anthem in the form of 2002's awesome 'Headspace Lullaby' on his own AfroArt label. In addition he has compiled a 'Grass Roots' set for Strut and a 'Choice' compilation for Azuli, showcasing his eclectic influences and musical loves.

    These influences extend from Philly soul and disco to dub reggae, afrobeat and house, and you can expect to hear all that and more when Mr Beedle ramraids the Ri-Ra basement........ 8)
