my local Holland & Barrett/Natures Way in the Swan Centre, Rathmines have a "Buy 2, get the 2nd half price" on *everything* in store.
I think this promo runs till the 6th Aug (usually in tiny print at the bottom of special offer display card).
Dunno whether it's a nationwide promo or just for this new store, tho.

Also, Superquinn have the "Seeds of Change" organic Indian sauces for €2, Innocent smooties for €3, Bachelors Beans 2 for €1 and frozen veg for €2 (til 4th Aug)
(they've revamped their website, so it's easier to check now...and they do specify 3 veggie wines on their list of recommended wines - for 3 price ranges but a search for vegan turns up...nada!)

Superquinn recommended Vegetarian wines

Under €11 - La Baume Renaissance Viognier
Between €11 & €16 - Paco & Lola Albarino
Over €16 - Costacielo Fiano Falanghina[/LEFT]

Just went by holland and barrett in Grafton st. and it's buy 1 get 1 half price on everything. Will be dropping in there at some stage for more chocolate =D

Actually, they seem to have a better variety of beans on the shelves now, as well as gluten free ("Free from" range) products, more organic stuff and eco-friendly cleaning products (even if they tend to stack their cheaper versions beside better known brands like Ecover).

Grr, am supposed to be boycotting them 'cos they're accused of appropriating an Oxfam slogan for themselves.

Hi all, first time posting in the veggie section. Hello.

I do a lot of veg cooking from scratch. I do it because I enjoy cooking but also because I don't like quorn products and really don't like any pre-made frozen crap.

For value, you cannot beat Asian supermarkets, whether South Asian(India, Mid East, etc) or more Chinese based.

Nuts, pulses, general veg (especially the many types of mushrooms), bread, spices. All way way way cheaper in these stores. Because it's handy I tend to go to the big Asian supermarket around the corner from the Market Bar near George's st in Dublin. There's two really good Indian/Pakistani/Middle Eastern shops side by side about 200 yards before the Portebello bridge near Rathmines. I hear there's an enormous one near the Italian quarter just on the north side but haven't visited it yet.

Probably, you all know what I'm talking about but if you don't try visiting one soon. Great for value and menu-inspiration.

Yup, that one is excellent - and also full of Chinese/Japanese and Thai ingredients. And Jamaican! The only place I could get Madhur Jaffrey sauces. Good range of fresh produce - and that famous stinky fruit - Durian!

It doesn't look like a supermarket from the street, you have to look up for the sign, then walk in the corridor and though to the back.

Also does cooking implements, industrial sized portions (rice and oils, mainly) and interesting sweets.

€5 in Restore, 67 Camden St., D.2 - till stocks run out (possibly a week or 3).

Lasts a very long time, apparently, 'cos you only need a little at a time.
Saw one option that I'd not seen before, with Neem oil!

Boots have 2 for 3 on vitamins/supplements, and they do a vegetarian (think vegan also) flaxseed dervied omega 3 supplement which rocks They also have Original Source body washes for 1.50 at the moment, and they're vegan and damn yummy smelling!

agree about the Asian stores - they are a complete godsend for veggies compared to Irish supermarkets with their ****e selection of fresh produce & apparent belief that the only beans that come in tins are baked beans and butterbeans -yuk!

The Oriental Emporium beside the Jervis Luas stop is amazing and much cheaper even than many other ethnic shops. I don't know how many times I've bought something I thought I could only get in a healthfood shop and then gone in there and seen it for half the price. Even unexpected stuff like popcorn is dead cheap. Spices, beans, lentils and sauces of all kinds are much cheaper there than in supermarkets and it's also really good for unusual greenleafy veg like mustard greens, water spinach, kai lan etc. that you just can't get anywhere else and are always in recipe books. You can also get mini Thai aubergines and Thai basil, Vietnamese mint & exotic spices like fresh galangal and root turmeric as well as sacks of chillies for the same you pay for a tiny packet in Tesco. Oh and they sell seitan in tins as mock duck/chicken/abalone, which believe it or not is a great meat substitute in small quantities in stirfries or sandwiches, once marinaded like tofu in spices. They have less Japanese stuff, but do the basics like miso paste & sake.

Other great ethnic shops are the Asian Food Company on Mary Street and Madina on Parnell Street, which is attached to the deadly Madina Indian restaurant on Mary Street which I've become addicted to. These places are better for Indian food but a bit more expensive than the Chinese shop. Between them they sell literally every variety possible of dal and beans & the spice collection is ridiculous. They also sell some Turkish foods like halloumi, that salty yoghurt drink and vine leaves and it's the only place I've yet found fresh curry leaves, which make an incredible difference to Indian curries!

if anyone knows of any ethnic shops specialising in Japanese/Thai/Vietnamese or especially African/Moroccan/Mexican products, it's be really appreciated as these ingredients are a bit tougher to source sometimes. Also anyone know if there's such a thing as veggie Thai/Vietnamese fish sauce and where could I get it??

As you can probably tell I'm a total foodie, but a very amateur chef - I think you kinda need to be being an Irish veggie - unless you don't really like food that is!

Quorn Surprisingly Low Fat Fillets, 312g, only €1.25 (approx. half price) in Tesco, Jervis Centre today (so, not necessarily in all Tescos)
Til the 9th Sept., mefinx.

***edit*** Also the Quorn family roasts - currently under 4 bucks - cheaper than elsewhere, atm.

Douglas Green - The Delivery - red and white (Cabernat Sauvignon Shiraz 2008 - red and Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay 2009 - white)
are both half price in Dunnes for the next 3 weeks apparently (though the display said the offer had expired, the staff told me that it was still running for the next 3 weeks)
Douglas Green is an umbrella group of S.A. wine producers including Bellingham, Boschendal and others and claim that all their wines have been vegetarian for the last 3 years.

Quorn Garlic fillets also reduced to €2.19 for next week or 2.

Note,
most (if not all) Wally's Hut / Nugan Estate and Aresti wines (all on the shelves of Centra/SuperValu) are vegetarian. And the Yalumba wines in Superquinn are also veggie. San Andreas Chardonnay 2006 (saw it in Superquinn) says on the label that its suitable for veggies!

Haribo sweets seem to be on promo in a lot of places (Centra, Superquinn, Fresh) but can't see any of the veggie ones.

Hell pizzeria are doing "All You Can Eat" pizza nights on Mondays and Tuesdays for a tenner.

Wrote most of the details on my hand (bold!) and they're all washed off so will get back to ye about it.

It would imply it was vegan, there being only 3 ingredients and all, but maybe I should do some more thorough research....
