I was at Jamestown Market a few Saturdays ago.

It's a market in Dublin City, near the Blackhorse Luas stop.

I'm a coin collector and I found a stall with loads of Callcards for sale.

The cards were in books, like the ones that hold business cards.

The stall was on the left in the main hall. It was near the open end
of the hall where there are fridges and furniture in a small yard.

Some of the traders were sitting around in this area smoking and
    having a tea break.

I think the stalls are fixed and don't move so it should be in the same place
this Saturday, or the next time it is open.

Here is the market in a boards thread:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=65400465

This thread is a sticky and is fixed to the top of the forum
as it contains information that is frequently updated.

    and the market's own website:

These are all very common cards unfortunately so you'd be looking at a couple of euro max for the lot, and that's if you could find anyone interested in them.

These cards were all issued in print runs of 100,000 or more (the Cottage card and the Children of Lir had runs of over 1 million each). The most sought after cards (and the only ones of any great value nowadays) were issued in print runs of a couple of thousand or a couple of hundred.

Hi, I have 8 call cards that I'd be grateful for a valuation on.
I have 5 5 unit Souvenir phoncards produced for an antiques fair held in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in May 1995. They are all unused but not in wrappers. I also have the souvenir cards for 1994, 1995 and 1996 all in wrappers, the 1994 is a patron's card and is number 8 of a limited run of 100. The 1995 and 1996 are each from a run of 1000. Are they worth anything?

Those cards tend to go for a few euro each on ebay but can sometimes do a bit better (for the sealed ones you have). I'd be very surprised if any of the sealed packs sold for more than a tenner these days to be honest. None of them are worth very much unfortunately. But if you sold them as a lot together you might get 20 euro or so for them.

There was a Telecom Eireann Callcard produced for the Kilmainham fair in 1993 which is valuable (it's a 5 unit card with a picture of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on it) but most of the other souvenir cards produced for fairs haven't held their value like that card has, mainly because they were BT cards which weren't as popular with collectors in Ireland and abroad.

There's no chance of that making €16 I'm afraid. €5 would be the max price for that card in my opinion, €3 would be a fair price. There were 60,000 of them made so it's easy enough to come across.

Same story for the other sealed cards you have up, Pocahontas and the Christmas card were both issues of 200,000 each and there were loads of collectors on the scene around 1995 when they were issued so there are still loads of them in sealed condition.

You could always get lucky with an inexperienced buyer, but it's unlikely as there are so few collectors around nowadays.

The bulk of these are of little or no value in used condition to be honest. The cards listed above are probably the best of the bunch because they're the rarest ones. The football ones could be worth a few euro each in good condition, the Simply Talk cards are only really sought after if they're overprints of older cards. Eircom recycled a lot of surplus stock by printing over old cards in the early 2000s. Even at that, there's a lot of them about so a few euro would be the maximum on these too.

The "Horse Racing in Ireland" card which you placed at the top of your list isn't actually rare at all even though people think the mis-printed text (which should read "Irish Horse Racing") makes it so. There were 166,000 of these cards printed so it's not rare at all. Rarer than the "Irish Horse Racing" cards yes, but still, nothing special.

    HI

the two Simply talk €7 Schlum type 7 chip are over prints. Is there a way of removing the top laer of print without destroying that underneath?

I was reading that out of all the 'Horse racing in Ireland' cards, the rarest is one without a batch number. Is the batch number the barcode printed on the back OR is it the number which is faintly stamped into the back of the card usually around the 'marlborough St' address corner.

Are the 50unit and 100 unit ones not worth much?

So to put a rough figure on it, how much do you think the whole lot are worth?

    thanks

It's probably possible to do this but it's the fact that the cards are overprinted that makes them interesting, so removing the overprint would just leave you with a fairly common card (they didn't overprint any rare cards as far as I know).

Yeah, the batch number is the number stamped on the reverse of the card, not the barcode number.
Are the 50unit and 100 unit ones not worth much?

They can be but the 50 unit cards on your list are pretty common, I think the rarest one you've listed would have had a print run of 50,000 (there were 350,000 Trinity cards printed). I don't see any 100 unit cards on your list, but there are some that had print runs of 12,000 or so and that type of card would be worth a few euro even in used condition.
So to put a rough figure on it, how much do you think the whole lot are worth?

    thanks

This is just my opinion based on the prices I've seen thing go for over the last few years, but if I was selling these cards I'd be happy if someone gave me €20 for the lot.

Which 50 Unit card is that? What do you reckon iits value is.

Apart from trinity, the other 50U I have are:

Science, Deirdre sorrows, 70 Years scouts (but latter in poor condition - print worn)

'Learn with Us' ODS gold chip. Whats its collector value?

The Scouts card. But if it's in poor condition it would have almost no value. It's a common card so even in good used condition I'd say you'd be looking at maybe €1 for it.
'Learn with Us' ODS gold chip. Whats its collector value?

There were only 10,000 issued so it's relatively rare. In good used condition you should get a few euro for it, but it's very hard to give an exact price. One day it might sell for €8, the next it could go for €2. It all depends on who's buying cards at the time.

I have about a few hundred CallCards.

I used to have a lot of CallCards but the only one I have left is a 10-unit AIB Teenlink card, issued in 1997. I focussed my efforts on Sky viewing cards in recent times.

Is that the IMI "New Ways For The Nineties" 50 Unit card with a chip in it or is it the IMI "Ireland's Europe" card with a magnetic strip? If it's the latter be careful if trading it because it's a very valuable card (one of the most valuable in fact).

I'd be interested in a swap for some of the cards you have, but I don't have the cards you have listed as wanting. Are there any other cards you're after?
