Welcome to The Cooking Club, a subforum of the main Cooking and Recipes forum. This forum is only for the week-to-week posting of Cooking Club recipes. This allows them to be easily searched and accessible. The only new threads that should be started are new recipes by the selected person every week.

Normal rules apply here, including, but not limited to:

    Advertising
    - Topics/posts that contain this will be both edited and locked. If you wish to buy add space, contact sales@boards.ie .

    Flaming
    - Posts containing personal attacks on another user will be edited/deleted.

    Spamming
    - Topics/posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted.

    Racism
    - Topics/posts containing such will be edited/deleted accordingly.

    Porn
    - Topics/posts containing such will be deleted on sight.

    Off Topic
    - Posts that stray off topic will be edited/deleted, depending on their relevance to the topic at hand

Don't argue with moderators decisions on thread - take it to PM or helpdesk. Doing so may result in an infraction or a ban.

Please report and problematic posts. If you have any issues, your first port of call should be to PM the moderators Faith, Mr Magnolia, Hill Billy, Dizzyblonde, BaZmO* or MissFlitworth.

    Thanks, and enjoy!

    Hi folks,

We wanted to bring it to your attention that we're introducing a slight change here in the Cooking Club. We're into our third very successful year now, and I know we're all delighted with how it's going. As time goes on, we get a bigger following, and more people are looking forward to the recipe posted every week.

It's very disappointing when a recipe isn't posted one week. It's stressful for us mods because we're trying to sort it out behind the scenes, and it's disappointing for those of you eagerly awaiting it. Many times, the failure to post is unavoidable, but it's especially frustrating in instances when we could have arranged a stand-in if the poster had contacted us in advance. It seems as though some people sign up without realising the level of commitment that we have to the Cooking Club, and have forgotten about it by the time their week arrives. Unfortunately, reminder PMs don't always work - sometimes we're just ignored, and other times we don't get a reply in time to arrange a stand-in. So from now on, we're going to introduce a 2-week ban for users who fail to post a recipe without providing adequate notice. We hope that this will encourage newer posters to understand how important it is to all of us that a recipe be posted every week, and to act as an encouragement for signed-up participants not to let other committed forum users down.

We welcome feedback on this decision.

    Regards,

Faith, the Hill Billy, and Mr Magnolia.

    How the cooking club works

Each week, a poster puts up a recipe of his or her choosing for everyone to try at their own pace. The initial idea was that we'd all keep up every week, but these days, the forum is more of a wonderful resource that you dip in and out of as you need. A list of recipes to date can be found here.

If you'd like to take part, there are a few rules and a few restrictions as to who can join:

1a. If you sign up, you be given a date that you must post a recipe on. The date will fall on a Friday. Please be prepared and have your recipe ready by this date. Please do not sign up if you are not serious about submitting a recipe.

1b. Chances are, you will receive a reminder PM a few weeks before you are due to post your recipe. You must reply to this PM and confirm that you will still be taking part. Otherwise, your slot may be given away.

1c. If you cannot take part on your allotted date for a foreseen reason, it is imperative that you contact the moderators in advance to let us know. A huge amount of work goes into the Cooking Club, and it is enormously frustrating when someone fails to post without good reason.

1d. If you fail to post a recipe without letting us know why, a 2-week ban will result. Of course, we understand that sometimes things happen unexpectedly to prevent you from posting, so we will use our discretion here.

    2. Pictures are NOT required. They're nice, but they're in no way essential. We'll come back to this, but we are imposing a maximum number of pictures this year. Some posts, although lovely to look at, are completely over the top with pictures and this makes it a nightmare to browse the forum on mobile devices .

    3. The choice of recipe is entirely up to you. It can anything you like, as long as you think others will enjoy it. Some recipes get an unexpectedly large response, others get very few replies. Please don't be disheartened if your recipe doesn't generate a huge response. Often, people are making it without posting about it. Lack of replies don't mean your recipe was a failure!

4a. We have a Random Recipe thread. If you don't sign up in time, or if you have extra recipes you'd like to submit, we strongly encourage you to post them to the Random Recipes thread.

    5. As usual, we will only accept sign-ups from posters who have a total postcount of more than 100 posts (or who can demonstrate a strong posting history in the Food & Drink forums under a previous closed account - PM the moderators for this). We will use our discretion with sign-ups where the poster has no history of posting here. We do this to minimise the number of people signing up and then forgetting about it or not wanting to take part a few months later.

5b. If you have failed to post a recipe in the past without giving us adequate notice, you will not be permitted to take part this year (or in the future).

    6. Finally, if there's a particular time of year that you'd prefer to post, or a time that really doesn't suit you, please let us know with your sign-up post . OR if you're brave enough to be the first poster of the year in early January, please post it!

Finally, and new for 2014, after discussion, we have decided that pictures must be limited to a maximum of 5. We feel this is sufficient for showing the important parts, and doesn't make the thread a nightmare for mobile browsing. This is 5 per recipe, not 5 per post. Extra pictures after the first 5 will be deleted.
