The biggies are being hung out to dry at the moment !!!! 1600 tax and 20mpg , you'd need to be getting Berties expenses to run it :D These yokes will have to be exported soon , can't see too many taxing them here :p

Good car, bad engine. Not a car I'd own again as it burned oil at 95k miles

The exhaust manifold would not stop pulling away from the head.

    Also slow

possibly pushing the limits but alot of power for cheap... good nct and tax

I never liked the look of those. Still, at a bit below asking, it couldnt be bad.
Close up looks like a dunlop tyre to me. 4 of them with lots of thread would account for a large chunk of the asking price too

Aye, lets just hope the dread "knock" wasn't there.

If anyone is looking at a Saab and wants to ring me and let me listen to the engine for said knock, I'd have no problem in doing so.

God, I love this thread but I saw the darker side of Bangernomics this evening. A guy came in to the garage with a '97 "banger" he'd just bought before Christmas with 2 months tax & 6 months NCT left. He was complaining of vibration from back left. On jacking the car up, back left was like a buckled bicycle wheel, all over the place. Back right was no better. When we took out the spare, it was a different rim completely. Spare was 14" while the 4 wheels on the car were 13". The studs lined up fairly well but the PCD was too tight on the 13" wheels so the seller had hammered them on & tightened them as tight as he could. None of the 4 wheels were sitting properly on the hubs. A major accident waiting to happen. Tyres were very good on these rims so previous seller/owner must have done some messing about with wheels. This guy now has to buy 4 wheels if he wants to keep the car on the road. There's value to be had but tread carefully.

To be fair, that could happen with any car of any value and it's very easy get stung. My buyers guide coupled with some common sense should help one avoid said situations. Also, the seller can tell alot.

No Tax is a bit of a put off.

... I always expect a 2nd hand car to have no tax. It's not like we're in England where driving it home untaxed is a big deal.

Yea but f knows when it was last taxed, could be behind by 6/12 months which is a pain in the hole.

Off the road declarations are for exactly that reason.

You don't do bangernomics unless your willing to do bits and bobs yourself and do a little leg work.

The new owner doesn't pay motor tax arrears on a used car. The only thing you've to watch for is buying at the end of the month, because you could end up paying a full month for just a few days use.

It makes absolutely no difference to a new owner when the tax expired and no off the road declaration is needed, you are liable for road tax from date of purchase :)

    specifically

and of course boards.ie come up too

If you go to motortax.ie, you'll find the form to tax your car and it has a section that allows you to specify when the new owner got the car. He or she is not liable for the arrears before the start of the month they bought the car.
