I got an interesting review today.

The Reveunue Commissioners, having read "The Pleasures of Winter" have decided that it is a work of "Artistic and cultural merit" (In your face, Mammy. NOT porn) and sent me a nice certificate to say so.

They also mentioned that the first €40,000 I earn in profit is tax-free.

So, if you want to apply for the Artist's Tax Exemption, it's pretty simply. The details are all here http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/reliefs/artists-exemption.html. Print off the form, fill it in and send it and three copies of the book to Dublin Castle.

A book published by an Irish publisher is straightforward. If you have a self-published or e-book, you can still apply, but the format is slightly different. You need to print off three copies of your e-book and sent that. And in both cases, you need to produce receipts from customers proving that people have actually bought your book. Publishers or Amazon statements are accepted.

They do send back the books too.

That's great, it's kind of like a weird 'award', and the lack of tax payments is the prize!

    Onwards and upwards!
