More than likely due to rather huge success of the Team Fortress 2 trading economy Valve have introduced trading support directly into the Steam client. You can now trade in-game items and unredeemed Steam gifts with people on your friends lists with no risk (there was previously a lot of people trading games or real money for in-game TF2 items and a lot of scams where people claimed to be doing this, this system now officially endorses the former removing the risk).

Currently only Team Fortress 2 items and unredeemed Steam gift vouchers are tradeable, with Portal 2 being supported "reasonably soon" and Valve are in-talks with other developers to get their games compatible with the system. So soon you may be able to farm gold in Spiral Knights and use your in-game loot to buy a copy of Deus Ex.

Note: You can't trade games on your Steam list that you have played and want to "trade in". This is only for unredeemed gifts such as if any of ye bought the Orange Box and got spare copies of Half-Life 2 or pre-ordered Deus Ex: Human Revolution and got a spare copy of Deus Ex.

To opt into the beta go to Steam -> Settings and do the things.
