Hey guys, I am going to the States next week (woo!) and was wondering if anyone had any idea on what beauty products are worth buying over there? I know most stuff generally is cheaper, and I want to pick up some OPI nail polishes and a few of those EOS lip balms, but is there anything else that I shouldn't miss? Thanks!

Whereabouts in the States are you going?

I'm going to be in a few places, we are doing kind of a road trip but the main cities will be Denver, Las Vegas and LA!

Check out Miracle Mile Shops in Las Vegas. It's on the Strip at Planet Hollywood. It has a nice Sephora that is always worth a browse as well as a Bath & Body shop, Gap body, Victoria's Secret Body etc etc

The Forum shops at Caesar's Palace has MAC, Kiehls, Inglot, NARS...

There's outlet shops too but I can't remember their name and I don't remember if I got beauty stuff there.

There's a Walgreen Pharmacy on the Strip too so have a look here for drugstore brands like Cover Girl, Wet n Wild, Revlon. The stuff is inexpensive and really great.

In my experience the shopping (clothes and cosmetics) in Vegas is far better than any other city in the US. ENJOY!

To add to this, I would suggest Ulta if you are driving by one.

Also Sallys are great. Both tend to be in slightly less central locations.

If you are passing an outlet mall, the Cosmetics Company Outlet is great. It's where the brands from places like BTs go when they have been discontinued so you get stuff like Estee Lauder, Mac, Clinique, 100% genuine but generally things like Xmas sets or older colours.

I love US drugstores like Walgreens and CVS. Sephora is great too.

I'm off to the States on Monday myself, can't wait!

    Hi Pythia,

That is great, I've never heard of Ulta or Sallys before but will definitely look out for it. We will be doing a good bit of driving through Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California so surely will come across one. Interesting about the discontinued stuff in Cosmetics Company Outlet too.

Thanks so much for the help - I'm going to look up these places on google maps and plan our stops! Hope you have a great time on your trip :)

Macy's will give you a coupon for 10% off purchases but I think it excludes cosmetics. Go to the customer service desk with your passport and ask for the visitors discount card. It's exclusive to foreign shoppers.

You're lucky to be going around Labor Day, you'll probably get some great bargains! :)

Boyfriend is currently in the states, have sent him lists for sephora, Walgreens and CVS. Have asked for things like beauty blender, hourglass ambient lighting powers, kat von D foundation, Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade that you can't get here. Also drugstore brands like Jordana and Covergirl that get good reviews online, Covergirl 3 in 1 foundation is apparently a good dupe for Double Wear. Also some candles from Bath and Body Works.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply guys, these are really helpful. I heard of the Kat Von D foundation before - is it designed more for really bad skin or can anyone use it?

It actually hadn't crossed my mind about Labor Day - that is great, hopefully there will be good stuff in the sales!!

Well I don't have bad skin personally but I believe it is a fuller coverage foundation. I just wanted to try it as I've seen it recommended on various beauty blogs (by people with normal/good skin) also I'm a fan of Double Wear so keen to try this if it's similar.

Tbh I just love trying different stuff that I see highly recommended online but can't get here, so thought I'd throw it on the list :D

    Have a fab trip :)

Skyline Beauty Supply in L.A. is amazing! It's in the middle of Chinatown and the area is a wee bit dodgy but they sell China Glaze, OPI, Essie and Zoya for next to nothing..Have a look on Groupon and see if there are any deals going. I got one that was $11 for $22 worth of polish. I spent way way way too much money there but it is amazing!!

In las vegas, town square is great for shopping and there are some good restaurants and bars there too. It's an outdoor mall so it doesn't feel as crowded as some of the others. I usually go to the sephora there to get my beauty products. There is a bath and body works there too as well as inglot,Mac, Victoria's Secret, the body shop. I've only been to miracle mile shops once and didn't like it. There isn't anything there you can't get in any other casino shops IMO. The Caesars palace shops are good and look nice.

Fashion show mall is on the strip and has 5 department stores and a huge Victoria's Secret. The south Las Vegas outlets is pretty decent but I don't think there is much in the way of cosmetic shops there. There is definitely at least one but I don't know what it is. It's not too far from town square and in the same direction so you could do both in one day. There is a Saks outlet there outside the main shopping centre called Off 5th where you can definitely get some designer bargains, not cosmetics though.
