Which Tripod Video Head?

    Hello,

I need to get a general purpose video head. I already have this Manfrotto tripod which I have used for still photography with a small ball head.

    http://www.manfrotto.com/classic-tripod-black

I’m willing to spend up to €190

Should I get a flat or half-bowl head?

Will a bowl head even fit this tripod?

What should I be aware of?

    What would you recommend?

    Thanks

    What camera are you using?

Don't think a bowl head will work.

If you have a big enough camera to justify it, this is a nice head: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-Size-Flat-Video-MVH502AH/dp/B006TZE0UQ/ref=pd_sim_ph_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1Q33514C7X8604RD2Y2G

On the smaller, cheaper end of things, for a DSLR you'd be doing quite well with this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Benro-S4-Video-Head/dp/B008EH1WBM/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417711854&sr=1-2&keywords=benro+s4

I have a Benro S2 and the Manfrotto above (though it's the bowl version) and while the Manfrotto is better, it's not a huge jump and it's a bit big for a DSLR as well. The Benro, while not quite as smooth, is a very nice piece of kit, especially considering the price.

The main thing you want in a video head is it to be a fluid head, and have the handle to pan and tilt. Fluid heads are much smoother than cheaper tripods. Quick release plate is a big bonus as well if you mix in handheld shots.

The Manfrotto 502 as posted above would be a decent one to go for, own an older version myself and its not bad. Will take a decent amount of weight and the movement is ok on them.

You wouldn't be able to use a bowl head with those legs, so you will have to get a flat base head, which to be honest can be a bit of a pain as all levelling has to be done with the legs!
