Brilliant weekend!
Big thanks to Sliabh who put a quite ridiculous amount of time into planning this.
Also thanks to Paul and Marko from Bellurgan, who ran the show brilliantly.
Really don't think it could have been any better

Big Thanks
Two days back and I still have a load of work from this event!
Right now I am trying to debrief as many people as possible to find out everything that happened over the weekend. When I have a better grasp of that I will do a story update for everyone. Please post your stories here or on the MilSim Forum so I can try and get the big a picture. We are also looking for game feedback. I have opened two threads for feedback on the Event (from publicity to booking to site organisation) and the Game (the story, units, game events and activities). We used last year's feedback to try and make a better game this year so please tell us what you did and didn't like.I need to say thanks to a whole load of people now though. And I apologise if there is anyone who I might have missed from this list. First to the guys in Bellurgan park who hosted us. Mark and Paul put in a huge effort like last year. There were few crazy requests from me or the others that they didn't try to accommodate: from mortars, to ATGMs, to vehicles. We asked and they provided. They made props, built structures (including an amazing checkpoint) planned missions, organised food, first aid, and made another heroic attempt to get a pyro licence (it looks like you can get one with 24 hours notice if you are an Olympic medal winner but otherwise forget it) and organised vehicles to transport players to and from the back end of the site for the start and end of the game. It would have been half the event without their help. They were supported as well by a whole load of the Bellurgan crew who's names I do not know, and Eddie who is responsible for the site. He let us back in, moved animals, and trusted us to behave around his working farm. Thanks very much to all of you! Next I have to thank the entire organising team from the Embedded Marshals who were in your face, to people you didn't see. Thermo, Gunny Payne, Stonewolf, Rummy, Alex, Conor, Gerrowdat, and Unsinnig were the EMs who worked on missions, and shaping the character of their respective units. Thanks as well to Unsinnig for the game poster, Cian for the website, and Gerrowdat for the milsim forum. The whole lot of us debated story, missions, rules, and what degree of abuse we could legitimately give players for months. We took what we had from last year and worked hard to top it. Shane didn't let his being all the way over in Bournemouth stop him from helping this time either. It was a pity his other commitments kept him from joining us this time around. We got various support as well from Dobby in RedBarn, and guys in Hobby Airsofter, and I have to mention Keith and the Tigerland crew. We didn't make it to Sligo this year, but that's not to say it won't happen. Thanks as well to my two year old Rosemary, who put up with her father hauling her around the site 2 months ago as we thrashed out a load of game details and logistics. Special mention has to be made of the people who volunteered to be Unit Commanders and Section Leaders. They were key to keeping units organised and involved. It is a sometimes difficult task, which can keep you stuck in base for longer than you might like, but good and enthusiastic leaders can make all the difference in what people get from the game. Finally big thanks to all of you - the players, both shooters and LARPers, who signed up, put down your money and came to have fun. You played hard, and played fair (I hardly heard a complaint all weekend), and everyone got into the game we offered. I think we sorted out the few issues we had last year, and I hope that you all felt you had an excellent weekend! |

Finally, here is the Rionegro Initiative After Action Report.
Sorry for the delay on this. It took longer than expected to gather all the testimony and to put it in a narrative all the organising team were happy with! Mark in Bellurgan Park also asked me to "thank you to everyone who gave us a hand. Especially some of the unseen faces who gave us a dig out in the weeks before the game etc." |

The collected feedback document for the game: http://goo.gl/ngvmb
Please take a look and let me know if there is anything you would add. We do use this stuff to make better games* * not that I am promising anything for 2013. Not yet anyway. |
