Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

2006 Audi A6 Fault Code

    The Glow Plug light come flashing up on the wifes car this morning, I got a mate to plug in and he pulled this code off it

    01796

    Cleared it but it came back when the car was started.

    It's an 06 3.0TDI V6 BMK Engine.

    A search of Ye Google reveals that Audi DTC P1796 is "Vehicle Speed Signal Circuit Short to Ground". These sensors are usually down near the gearbox/half-shafts and failure of them cause all kinds of weirdness.

    Bear in mind that "P0..." codes are standard with OBD-II compliant systems, and "P1..." codes are manufacturer-specific extensions.
