Sad news yesterday that Gretchen Franklin, who played dear old Ethel Skinner in Eastenders, died aged 94.

She was my all-time favourite EE character and a true soap legend.

I'm sorry to hear that ... she was great in enders with her Willie .. I thought the storyline with her and Dot was v moving and well acted ... (some people didn't like it just cos it was about two old ladies).

    I have actually.

Ethel SKinner was true Eastenders. Well written character, a real person.. wonderful lines, and perfectly acted by Gretchen.

The days she was on EE were long before the tripe we see these days where there's a massive revelation in a packed Queen Vic every episode involving a Slater or the latest gangster.

old skool EE was just as piss as the modern day stuff,it was just that it was
    just a bit groundbreaking really.
I used to hate the old "during the blitz" namby plotlines that the old dears used to have.
NOT to mention the hilarious antics of ethels little pink WILLIE. ho ho ho!
sad to see the old dear pass away though...
