Inset stove, do I need a flue liner?

Got an inset stove from a friend that was installing a gas fire. Can I belt away with it without a flue liner or will there be issues if one is not installed? The chimney has got a very good draft so I am thinking there is no need for a liner. Also, am I right to assume that flexi liners are difficult to clean?
