Yeah, I've heard this about Jacksons before. They price their Service A just €14.00 under the official Mercedes price, 'nuff said.

Would any of these other two be more reasonable? It's a W124, so I don't need a fancy workshop full of electronics, just someone with some manly tools and proper experience with these cars :).

Have been using Coolmine Motors in D15 for my E30 - very reasonable rates, and very good at what they do. They're mainly eastern european lads I think - always a stream of older German cars in and out.

I looked in Boards and other sites to find recommendations for a Merc specialist to look at my recently purchased 95 W124 E220 Coupe. A name that popped up in a number of places was Benjamin Lichtenberg (Lichtenberg Classics) just outside Bray. He gave good immediate advice on my first call with him - put the car through its NCT (1 year overdue) and use that to identify the basic faults that need fixing and then lets talk. It sailed through the NCT. I then brought the car to him and he identified some immediate issues (engine wiring loom, faulty oil pressure switch & temperature gauge) and dealt with these. He also gave it a full service replacing all fluids/filters and gave me some ideas of what I could do to improve the car at its next service and the cost. On the affordability front, Benjamin gave a precise quote and there were no surprises. An honest and decent guy.

I have used Ben to sort out a number of problems on various mercs, stuff other mechanics couldn't fix he is spot on and takes pride in his work. Can't recommended him enough.

Agreed, he's looked after several Mercedes for me over the last 5 years, you won't find better or more honest.

Nah. Ben Lichtenberg has been recommended on here several times by several people in the past. If I had a classic Mercedes, I would go to him.

Hi W124man - i'm curious, who might this be? I'm native to the area and didn't know of a Merc specialist in the immediate locale (Mini's yes) and Ben has looked after my Mercs for the best part of 6 or 7 years. Straight up and very knowledgeable guy.
    PM if you wish
