Bargain Alerts Users' Buys

The purpose of this thread is to keep a blog of what us, the bargain savy users of this thread are spending our money on.

Basically the idea is if you purchase something you think others may be interested in just post a link to it here with a few words about it. It would be more useful for items which may be just slightly reduced or which would not warrant the attention of a full thread.

Have you ever found yourself with a small bit of cash to spare roaming the pages of play.com or the Argos catalogue just waiting for something to hit you?,
well this thread will hopefully make a better alternative with some real gems to be found.

It would be best if comments such as great post or thanks for that were kept to a minimum and the thanks system was used instead.
Also if you find an item someone has purchased cheaper post the link, do not abuse the poster.

I have contacted Basquille in advance of posting this so please no backseat modding, I am aware this is not a bargain alert.

    hope ye like the idea.

    Cheers ShoulderChip.

It should be known this is a trial run.. I have a sinking suspicion the thread will start strong but die off. But I hoped to be proved wrong. I'll sticky it for the time-being.

    To start it off:

I bought Sony Wireless Headphones for €40 off Ebay - as indicated here!

Was in Germany last week, and picked up the Blu-ray of 'Death Proof' for €10, and the Blu-ray of 'Planet Terror' for €15. This was in the popular European chain Media Markt (who have stores throughout Europe) so if anyone is visiting, I thought they were good value.

Another German electronic store, Saturn was selling the first 4 Harry Potter's on Blu-ray for €10 each.

I have not bought too much of late,

but I did book flights in the current ryanair sale.

I also got 64pairs of daily contact lenses from daysoft lenses for 24 euro.

I booked a single train ticket from Irish Rail.ie in their ten euro one way midweek offer Irishrail.ie

Oh and I ordered a 3 month subscription to the economist for about 24 euro (student price, they don't verify student credentials) also can say no after receiving four episodes and get money back.

I bought a Belkin PureAV HDMI Switch (3in 1 out) in PC world for 24.99 with remote control. A few weeks ago, the same switch was 99.99.

    http://www.expansys.ie/d.aspx?i=156243

Along side it, in a different (newer) box, was the same switch for 99.99

Well worth 24.99. I don't know if it would be worth 99.99 though!

Like ShoulderChip, I also bought 64 pairs of contact lenses from Daysoft Lenses for 24 euro.

I see this thread is going down like a lead balloon;)

Anyways, I didn't want to post a whole new thread about getting a Bart Simpson pogo stick(!!)(well I got 3 of them) in Tesco in Mahon for €4.99, (was 21.99) Pretty good deal as my son wanted a pogo stick for ages, and cheapest pogo stick I saw elsewhere was €25.

I am I the only one who feels that this new sticky is yet another area I have to check for Bargain Alerts ?

Can we not just have them all on the main Bargain Alerts thread page which we can periodically check to see updates in one location ?

Don't want to be a killjoy but I'm sorry but I don't see the purpose of this subfolder.

Just subscribe to the thread and check when possible.. it's not like it's a "buzzing" thread!

I sort of see where you're coming from but sometimes people buy something they don't necessarily see as a Bargain Alert, or feel like posting. So they post their buys here.

10 mountain bike inner tubes for £10 delivered http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=21927
note they are schraeder and not presta like in the photo. They still have other stock cheap from that flood.

Go really cheap "bacon bits" in tesco, it is like offcuts, some packs are nothing but rind & fat but I got a very lean packet, think it is something crazy like €1.70 for 500g IIRC.

Pumice stone for €1.25 delivered on DX

Going over to Lisbon in October..

Got a return flight with Aer Lingus for €120 (including taxes and charge, but excluding baggage).

Also.. since the only flight to Lisbon leaves Dublin at 7am daily, I got a room the night before my flight (a Saturday night) in Bewley's Hotel by the airport for €52 (including all charges).

PS - got 10% off my hotel stay using a voucher for Hotels.com... it's 'AFG10VCA' and expires at the end of the month.

That's something to write home about alright.

I have an inkling they'll sell out quickly.

Don't go telling everyone "bic-cause" there'll be none left for me.

    Shall I go on? ;)

Is there a breakfast included in that? is it a buffet if there is?
That would suit me well, usually ~€40 for a taxi for me and then I would get breakfast in the airport, if it was a buffet I would make a pig out of myself as usual and would probably cost me €25 in the airport restaurant:pac:

I can not get a direct bus from my house, but you can use those tansfer 90 tickets so it would only cost me €1.70 to get to bewleys hotel.

Which shop? any other deals on?

No breakfast included with that unfortunately.

But since I'll be leaving for the airport about 5.30am, I probably wouldn't be able to get it anyways. Normally breakfast doesn't start til 6am.

Are the bike tubes strong? dont want them puncturing easily on me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,370 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

Dunno, I presume they should be OK. That site is very good and would not stock cheap crap. Also they are not "lightweight" like some are branded, which could be thinner. Note I said they are schraeder which is the same valve as on cars, many newer mountain bikes have "racer valves"/presta.

If punctures are a big issue you can get puncture restistant tyres, or you can get liners, I have these liners and they are really tough.
