No more DW-TV on Sky/Astra

With DW-TV disappearing from the Sky epg, and then not being available as an "Other channel", I contacted DW-TV to ask them what happened.

Nice to know that Sky is up to its usual tricks, and still trying to put the squeeze on everybody. I wonder what kind of money they were arguing about.

    email from DW-TV:

Thank you for your great interest in DW-TV.

Despite intensive negotiations with Sky Channel no agreement was achieved concerning the further broadcast of DW-TV. Therefore the TV program of Deutsche Welle can no longer be received via Sky Channel.

DW-TV continues to be available as live stream on the internet and direct to home via the satellite HOTBIRD 8.

We thank you once again for your interest and hope that you will be able to use one of the alternative solutions.

    With kind regards,

    Franziska Sacher

DW did not pay their bills? If this is the case then what tricks were Sky up to?

The usual one of trying to get more money for the Murdoch family.

DW-TV is not the kind of organisation that doesn't pay its bills. Sky was obviously trying to negotiate a higher figure, but instead got nothing.

You don't know that though do you.

OK, Sky could have been asking for less, but DW-TV insisted on them having more, on the grounds that they felt sorry for all of the little starving Murdochs. Negotiations probably broke down because the Murdochs were too proud to take charity.:p

Why does DW_TV have to deal with "Sky channel"

Could they not go directly to SES or Eurobird

DW-TV were being uplinked on the RTE transponder, 43 @ 10.744GHz, were they not? Sky pay for the transponder leasing costs on TP43 (in return for RTE being encrypted and part of a sky subscription package) so obviously DW-TV had some sort of uplink/carriage agreement with Sky which must have recently ceased, hence them disappearing off it.

Yes, as was mentioned in the DW-TV email, they obviously couldn't agree on a renewal figure so parted company.

Nowt to do with us gov...........

    Dear Alan
Thanks for your email about DW-TV.
Unfortunately, this channel ceased broadcasting on Monday 3rd August. This decision was taken by the channel themselves.
    Kind regards
