The Game of Thrones mod is really impressive for such an early release

There's an expansion pack on the way letting you play as the Islamic empires:

I'm not sure of the release date.

€10 On Steam Sale or €40 with all the add ons - which is worth getting for someone completely new to the game?

Edit: Scratch that, I see the complete DLC pack is mostly faces, shields and medieval songs! to add to the game. Whoopdy Doo!

Whereas the Swords of Islam DLC is only 2.50 extra and properly adds a whole new element to the game.

Never paid any attention to this at all but now I'm completely intrigued.

Too bad I didn't pick it up in the Steam sale as it's no $40 again. Hopefully it'll drop in the Christmas sale!

Bit late for tips when you're starting off, since you're probably playing it now, but the best advice I was given was to not expect or even try to win on your first few goes. Just experiment with the game. The Tutorials are awful (they usually are with Paradox games) so you'll only really learn from your mistakes.

Bah! By this stage I'm the King of Ireland! Onto my heir, taking parts of Coastal Great Britain. Managed to get a very good marriage which gave me about a third of Ireland and helped me significantly. Essentially all my son's have had plots against them and keep whining me for stuff, can be a bit overbearing.

Ireland game is usually easy, try a HRE game

Game is €9.99 on Impulse now it activates on Steam

Picked it up on Impulse, but it's safe to say I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. It's so complex.

It's actually not as complex as it first seems. The tutorials give a fairly basic overview (and usually bug out and skip steps, so if you find yourself unable to proceed, you may have to start again), and there's quite a few "Let's Play" videos that will show you the ropes. Plus, you can always ask here.

I got it a while ago and am only really getting stuck in now. It's insanely addictive and has amazing depth.

Any links to a good Let's Play video?

Hopefully this will paste right (I'm on the mobile) but this is one I'm currently watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox51...e_gdata_player

I'm no expert on the game, but I found this pretty good. Though it's fairly long (each one is about 30 mins long). As I said above, I found that if you just fiddle about in your first couple of goes, you start to realise the implications of your actions.
