Social Care

Hi,

Just wondering has anyone done or is doing this course? I am interested, yet I would like to know more on the job prospects as I feel I'd be a person to take home one's problems, which I don't want. What are the positives to certain jobs from this degree? That are not emotionally draining.
Many thanks for any replies

I know two folks who did this, and yeah, it is hard going. Like late nights working on documents and studying psychology and criminology.

The placement occurs in 2nd year, and it can be pretty draining. Not because it is hard work, more because the cases are quite difficult. Little kids lacking trust, abused...sad really.
I know someone who spent alot of money on transport and buses to get to her placement, and back. She was out in Killarney, and the placement was hard to get to.

Bumping this. It's a good course, plenty work out there dispite the recession. Placements are good, just don't get emotionally involved (which you shouldn't as a professional anyway). Exams are broke down between mini assessments and the summer exams. You walk away with a B.A after 3 years and can work with kids in care, leaning disability sector, homeless, elderly etc. The only negative that is specific to that course in IT Tralee is the Psychology lecturer is a prick. Good luck if you do it.
