Wireless problem

I bought a HP laptop in Korea for travelling with but the wifi seems to be driving me mental as sometimes it works fine and sometimes it won't work at all. The annoying thing is that it seems to have 3 programs at work, just Windows, Intel My Wifi Technology and HP Connection Manager and as it seems fairly buggered already, I'm apprehensive to start uninstalling.

Here's the most common problem; the laptop picks up the wireless signal, connects and then after a few seconds decides that it can't find any wireless signal whatsoever. Running a troubleshoot might result in it finding the connection again but the same thing happens after it connects for a few seconds.

Is there a program out there for testing whether my wireless card is working properly?

Intel My Wifi should be unrelated. HP CM should be able to be safely removed. Quite possible too many programs are trying to administer the connection?
