Should There Be A Hurling Final Replay?

Need to book a weekend away for the last weekend in September. Just wondering if there is a replay of the All-Ireland Hurling Final what weekend will it be played? Anybody know?

Probably the following week, the 16th, as the football final is the 23rd and I could not see a hurling replay being pushed to 3 weeks after the first game.

100% will not be on the 16th - camogie All Ireland final is on

Replay is down for 30th September but that would probably go out a week - ladies football All Ireland is down for the 30th Sept. Even though it states 30th, I'd see it going out to the 7th Oct tbh if there was a replay

Interesting, thanks for that

Even though 4 weeks is a long time to wait for a replay, there is precedence for such a delay, the last drawn hurling final back in 1959 was on Sept 6th, and the replay not until Oct 4th

I'd have to imagine the scheduling would be re-jigged if there was a replay. The camogie and ladies' football finals almost surely should be played the same day anyways, and there's obvious precedent with the club hurling and football finals being played together. Playing the junior/inter games at neutral venues makes more sense, it's not like the mens' junior final is consistently played at Croke Park. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the 16th or 30th in event of a draw but it'd be more likely just moving another event back a week than actual editing of the content.

Another possibility would be Saturday 22nd. Don't think there's anything on that day. Not sure about the logistics of having the hurling and football finals on the same weekend though.

Camogie and Ladies Football on the same day?? When you take into account how successful Cork have been over the past decade in both codes and numerous girls playing on both sides, it would be very hard to do.
Also, the Camogie and Ladies Football organisation would never ever give up their own day out to share with the others.

But, from a logistical point of view, as regards supporters, maximising marketing, both on the same day would be super, but as said above, will never happen.

No way would it happen! Obvious precendent with the club hurling and football being played on the same day???? Totally different - is not a precedent at all. You are putting two separate organisations on the same day???? Camogie and LGFA are not in any way affiliated to each other, though there are talks to do so. At the moment the camogie and ladies football organisations have an extremely poor relationship with each other - not a hope would things be changed in order to "facilitate" a hurling final. Camogie, being part of the GAA would have their date, but the ladies football would not, which is why the date is set on the day the ladies should have their AI finals. Take the county situation - camogie and ladies football putting fixtures on the same day - Munster football final was scheduled for Saturday 21st of July, and the camogie put their fixture right on top of the football one, instead of the Sunday. So Briege Corkery played the camogie in the morning and the football in the evening, Rena Buckley would have been the same only that she was injured. This is the last in a long list of similar occurances!

I answered the OP's question by looking at the GAA calendar for this year - the replay is down on the calendar for 30th September. Reason why there is a calendar is that counties who are involved in the finals can plan for club games in the event of a replay happening. GAA, camogie and LGFA have those calendars so that counties can work out club fixtures - it isn't as easy as pushing things back a week. If it were to happen, I reckon it would be on the Saturday rather than the Sunday

It wouldn't maximise supporters at all - having two games, with the possibility of one county involved in both gives three sets of supporters, four max. Ladies football AI final has six teams playing, six separate sets of supporters. Plus given the fact that the camogie association does not have to pay for Croke Park on the day and the ladies football does - ladies football clubs would not be at all happy having forked over the Croke Park levy already! Logistically, it involves much more than a lot of people on here would realise given they are two separate organisations.

It's HQ that have the final say of when, who or why when it comes to Croke Park. Just because a few officials in both camps can't play nice doesn't mean it's not the sensible thing to do, regardless of replay issues. I don't really know if dual players constitutes a strong enough reason to not amalgamate. Theoretically the same thing can happen to a dual football and hurling club.

I think at the end of it it boils down to numbers - you have to games that bring a relatively speaking decent crowd saddled to a day of games that mostly just attract friends and family. The situation in this year's senior club final replay - where it was played in Breffini and not Croke Park - underlines than single mid-level attendance cards aren't played in Croke Park and that's essentially what happens with the ladies' football and camogie finals.

Clearly the current schedule is broken and the only real solution is either joining the ladies' finals up or having one or both permanently fixed for Saturdays.

It'd be more than faintly ridiculous if the replay of the second biggest game of the GAA calendar was a month after the first game.

Thats the nub of the issue in a nutshell.
What may have worked in 1959 is not really practical in 2012.

It would have to be held on a Saturday then, like the '00 SFC final between Galway & Kerry.

I could be wrong, but aren't the junior and intermediate ladies football and camogie finals on in Croke Park on the same day as their respective senior finals? No chance you're going to have 6 games on the one day.
Can't see there being a replay though.

Yep - there would be no chance of the two organisations coming together anyway, the suggestion of the two coming together is pure and utter madness.

Replay is down for 30th Sept according to the GAA calendar, but I, like you don't see that there will be a replay. Reason why a replay is normally on the week after a game is because of scheduling and the next round to be played, whereas this has no bearing on inter county games since its the last one in the competition for the season

I always thought that the dates for replays were set as the last Sunday in September for hurling and first Sunday in October for football, I don't know where/why I got that idea.
