Should There Be A Hurling Final Replay?
Need to book a weekend away for the last weekend in September. Just wondering if there is a replay of the All-Ireland Hurling Final what weekend will it be played? Anybody know?

Probably the following week, the 16th, as the football final is the 23rd and I could not see a hurling replay being pushed to 3 weeks after the first game.

Replay is down for 30th September but that would probably go out a week - ladies football All Ireland is down for the 30th Sept. Even though it states 30th, I'd see it going out to the 7th Oct tbh if there was a replay |

Even though 4 weeks is a long time to wait for a replay, there is precedence for such a delay, the last drawn hurling final back in 1959 was on Sept 6th, and the replay not until Oct 4th http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1959_Al...pionship_Final |

Another possibility would be Saturday 22nd. Don't think there's anything on that day. Not sure about the logistics of having the hurling and football finals on the same weekend though. |

Also, the Camogie and Ladies Football organisation would never ever give up their own day out to share with the others. But, from a logistical point of view, as regards supporters, maximising marketing, both on the same day would be super, but as said above, will never happen. |

I answered the OP's question by looking at the GAA calendar for this year - the replay is down on the calendar for 30th September. Reason why there is a calendar is that counties who are involved in the finals can plan for club games in the event of a replay happening. GAA, camogie and LGFA have those calendars so that counties can work out club fixtures - it isn't as easy as pushing things back a week. If it were to happen, I reckon it would be on the Saturday rather than the Sunday Quote:

It's HQ that have the final say of when, who or why when it comes to Croke Park. Just because a few officials in both camps can't play nice doesn't mean it's not the sensible thing to do, regardless of replay issues. I don't really know if dual players constitutes a strong enough reason to not amalgamate. Theoretically the same thing can happen to a dual football and hurling club.
I think at the end of it it boils down to numbers - you have to games that bring a relatively speaking decent crowd saddled to a day of games that mostly just attract friends and family. The situation in this year's senior club final replay - where it was played in Breffini and not Croke Park - underlines than single mid-level attendance cards aren't played in Croke Park and that's essentially what happens with the ladies' football and camogie finals. Clearly the current schedule is broken and the only real solution is either joining the ladies' finals up or having one or both permanently fixed for Saturdays. It'd be more than faintly ridiculous if the replay of the second biggest game of the GAA calendar was a month after the first game. Last edited by Syferus; 18-08-2012 at 02:57. |

I could be wrong, but aren't the junior and intermediate ladies football and camogie finals on in Croke Park on the same day as their respective senior finals? No chance you're going to have 6 games on the one day.
Can't see there being a replay though. |

Replay is down for 30th Sept according to the GAA calendar, but I, like you don't see that there will be a replay. Reason why a replay is normally on the week after a game is because of scheduling and the next round to be played, whereas this has no bearing on inter county games since its the last one in the competition for the season |
