...I have to pay my own tuition this year and can't get a grant as I dropped out of a college 2 years ago in first year.

Because of that I'm not entitled to a grant, so its nearly 7 grand I've to pay.

Does anyone know If gmit let students pay in instalments??
I've literally around 3 grand saved up for the year so I won't b able to afford it.
I'll be applying for the BTEA allowance so I could possibly pay in instalments.

7 grand??? for GMIT?

wait, you talking for the following two years?

or is this a masters?

if you dropped out of first yr, you pay that (about 2.4 grand)

but yr 2,3 and 4 you still qualify for grant, assuming ur circumstances havnet changed

I failed my 1st year exams in NUIG in 210 and never went back in september...
I got the grant that year..
I've applied for a new course in GMIT, so i'll be in first year again...
I dont qualify for the grant because I've already gotten in for 1st year(i'll get it in 2nd year)

Registration fees are 1,500 but I was told I'll have to pay my own tuition which is normally payed for students, and thats 5 grand.. so nearly 7 altogether

I'd love to know where you got the 7 g's from.

anyway, if you dropped out of first yr within the last five yrs, you pay that. that's all.

SO just the 2,250 (which I just found out can be payed in two instalments) ??

I'm pretty sure I've an email from someone at gmit saying i have to pay tuition...

naw, undergrad fees are 2.5 tops. (5 is for non-nationals) as re the 1.5, i forget. the dole might pay it, but i actually forget. ur app will be BTE, so they might.

yes, tuition of 2.5 or more likey as you say 2.25

as for the reg fees, it's a strange area. i'd chance the dole paying it, but i really dont know. the student union might know

not sure about instalments with GMIT tbh, though most unis do it

oh... looks like I was right...

From the GMIT website

"Tuition fees will not be paid for students undertaking a repeat year of study or for students who already hold an undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification.

Tuition fees will be paid in respect of eligible students who, having attended but not completed approved courses, are returning following a break of at least five years in order to pursue approved courses at the same level.

Students who have previously pursued, but not completed a third level programme will not be eligible for free tuition fees for the equivalent period of time spent on the first programme of study."

I think your right. I am in the same boat as yourself. I did two years in NUIG and really hated the course. I am going to GMIT this year and as far as I know I will have to pay the 7 grand. The social welfare do a back to education allowance which is worth looking into for repeat students.

I got my registration pack today from GMIT returning as mature student. When i completed the online registration and came to the fees section the cost was €9000, i was convinced it was around the 2.5k. I completed a level 6 cert in 2004 in DIT. I have provisional approval for the grant but was shocked to see the €9000 figure... Maybe i missed something

It's 9,000 for no-eu members..
If you are an Irish national, ring up the registration office and they'll sort ya out.
I was told my fees would be 6,000 and I went IN to the office to today and my tuition is only 700 now...I've got contribution aswell so in total i have to pay just under 3,000
