Artistic gymnastics has been in the Olympics since 1896- and was in the ancient games. For women it requires a huge amount of core strength, balance and flexibility. For men it requires unbelievable upper body strength. Both of them have to train 5-8 hours a day for about 10 years before they can aspire to Olympic level. So it showcases strength, flexibility, precision...how is it NOT an Olympic sport? If you don't know what's going on or how they score or judge it, it doesn't mean nobody else does. |

Just seen this after I posted my previous reply and essentially what you have said here can be applied to every sport that has been lambasted here, peoples ignorance and lack of understanding is the problem.

All football. Women's- Just because they have a world cup 12 months previously (I'm told) which is no doubt more prestigious than a gold medal. However you can't have men's soccer and no women's. So I'd ditch mens too. It was probbaly one of the most boring events of the games anyway. (Although that's a matter of opinion). Very few non die hard football fans talking about it.
I'm a big tennis fan but can see why people don't want it there. W'don means more to all the players anyway and other slams do to other players. Saying that it's nice that they get to represent their countries in a major tournament of sorts. Although it went quite well Walking. Wrestling. Beach volleyball- it is all for show and is quite hard to take seriously. Normal volleyball is sound though ![]() Golf- Can't see this going well. I'm a massive golf fan but with 4 other majors and a Ryder cup in 2016 I can't see there being massive interest in this. Is golf even a sport? Subjective Please, please, PLEASE don't let darts get a spot. It is NOT a sport it is entertainment, which I like a lot aswell |

As much of a sport as archery, or shooting. I think it should be included. Darts and squash are the two global sports that need to be in as soon as possible |

Plenty of sports are not particularly physically demanding. Plenty of non-sports are- look a Formula 1. Those guys train 2-3 hours a day in the gym. They're fit, but it's not a sport. |

Anything that can be played competently by lads with a load of pints in them is not a sport...sorry darts. If it got into the Olympics it would be a joke imo.
Darts Golf BMX Football Synchronised Swimming The first two should not be Olympic events and the latter 3 should be removed. Last edited by Blay; 10-08-2012 at 21:21. |
