A new contender for <$100!

A new google tv based player has been announced in the US. For $99.99 you get a neat little player with a very cool remote!

Hopefully when XBMC is released for android this little box could realise it's full potential.

Excited I am...

Vizio co-star

I'm using the previous version (Logitech Revue) since Bargain Alert in January and love it. My only complaint is that it can stutter from time to time switching between apps.
I use for Netflix and Plex all the time; also use Chrome (for RTE Player) and Revision3 app quite a bit. Plays video great. The IR blasters mean the keyboard can control by TV, satellite box and amp too.
Would seriously consider getting the Vizio as a result. Dual core ARM processor should give it a bit more pep!

Heading to the states soon, tempting to pick one up for the folks. Any idea if it has a usb port for an external HDD? Had a quick read but didn't see it mentioned.

Taken from the website :

Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB ports let Co-Star access other devices on your home network to see more of your favorite movies, music and pictures on the big screen as well.
Hope that helps!

Does it play media over DLNA?

H.264, MP4 and MKV only?

I have the WDTV Live SMP (85euro shipped on Amazon) at the moment and it plays way more formats. Hopefully they've just down-played the spec as it seems like a great device on paper.

Anyone buy the Vizio box? How is it going? Is it the best Google TV box out there?

Yeah I got one. I have mixed feelings on it though. I like the form factor and the remote has it's merits, although a bit clunky. I find it very good for online streaming (Hulu, Netflix...) but local network streaming is patchy and codec support (e.g AC3) is not as good as it should be.

I had hopes that it would eventually support XBMC but there are limitations imposed by Google which currently will not allow this. My workaround is to have my ATV2 (with XBMC) feeding through the Co-Star to get my local multimedia goodness

I don't have another GTV device to compare it to, but there are more coming on the market. GTV seems to be taking off a little again, after the Logitech Revue debacle. Things like PrimeTime and voice search have been added recently. I'll hang on to mine for a little while and see what happens.
