Hi folks, new to this thread.....

Does anyone now if there are plans to standardise all Saorview boxes & set-ups that when you buy a Saorview box that the UK freeview channels are included.?

Would like to have one box does all.

If you had read around the forum, you would see that any Saorview box will receive regular Freeview, if you are in an area where Freeview is available.

Thanks, I'm in the mid-west...just need a simple 'out of the box' system that I can set up on my home TV with standard aerial that will give me the Saorview channels and freeview BBC/ITVs if possible.

If you currently get Uk channels using your aerial directly from the North a FreeView HD box might give you both options. However I doubt you would get reliable aerial reception in "mid-west" from NI. Satellite would be the more reliable option for UK TV

Yes, was thinking the same.
Eventually over time I image digital / freeview all channels will be on one box using standard aerial.

Highly, highly unlikely. I know you should never say never, but this is one instance where I'd consider making an exception.

Well apparently there is a box that will receive saorview and the english channels BBC, ITV Channel 4 etc,

https://www.mytv.ie/pages/orderMainRoom.jsf

Although forums here suggest that the box they offer is not on the saorview approved list
They do say that this one box will provide access to saorview and terrestrial channels,
You will need a dish of some sort thou I imagine

So there ya go

Thats a combo box ( 2 prices given depending on whether you go saorview approved or not ), requiring both an aerial and a dish. The topic here is Freeview / saorview - i.e no dish.

No box can get a signal where none exists. This changover is largely a change in transmission modulation, if you have been getting a NI/Welsh analogue signal then you'll almost certainly get a digital signal. If you haven't been getting a NI/Welsh analogue signal then you probably won't, except at the margin.

Fortunately nowadays there is no need for enormous aerials, if you are beyond reasonable range, as a dish will pick up Freesat.
