Is it time for the gig or the club?

Howdy y'all. Looking for some input here. All input welcome...

Basically, I'm the process of writing new material. I'm moving from one musical project to another and let's just say this new project is like a blank canvas. Originally, my idea was to have the songs very classic/southern rock oriented. But needing some inspiration, I travelled to Berlin. It's sort of a home away from home for me. Obviously we all know Berlin is known for it's mega clubbin' scene. But this time more than ever I noticed the absolute positive power it has on people. Much the same as a great rock gig. But I got thinking...can i mesh rock and dance together?

It's been done a million times before, but is there still space for it? Perhaps it's died a bit and in need of a revival? At the moment, I find a lot of rap/hip hop seems to be fused with electro and dance...so it time to claim it back? Or maybe I can utilize rock instruments in an electro way, use the dynamics of dance music etc...? I just don't know...for the first time ever...I've hit a musical cross roads!!!! Any thoughts?

Interesting !

I've been thinking the same thing recently.

It seems that mainstream has incorporated a 4/4 Dance beat fairly heavily into it's sound.

I know that the last Korn album had Nosia and some other D&B producers working on it - they were trying to fuse IDM / D&B and Rock.

There are certainly oppertunities out there for mixing the two successfully if the right blend is in there.

I guess it's a case of keeping enough rock so the rockers love it, and infusing enough dance/electronic so that the dance heads love it !
