Don't vaccinate.

Well - I wasn't worried before now...
Not that I don't believe that article, I think I would take it with a pinch of salt... for now...

//..

wonder was it the sheep or cats??

I sold some ewes to a guy a couple of years ago and they got Toxo... we presumed they got it from his cats as we never had it here but i presumed our ewes would have picked up immunity from the cats..... wondering now if we should vaccinate just to be safe

no cats are allowed around our house, . one theory i had was bought in straw that didnt come straight from the field. but you could spend days wrecking your head for an explanation
vaccination is the only way to go for me anyway

its cheaper up the north for sure but you need a perscription from your vet

try http://www.vetmedicinesdirect.co.uk/ they are in Fivemiletown

it costs from €3-€4.5 for the toxo and €4-€5 for the enzo or the other way about, forget now

If you had cctv up in your yard, you'd find it hard to believe the number of cats in your yard at night, anyway sheep cannot get toxo from another and you can't buy it in either, whereas enzo is very infectious and can be bought in and a ewe can abort every year with it
Did you see john fagans piece in the farming indo where he said vaccination for abortion wasn't worthwhile......talk about tempting fate. 1600 ewes at risk

How naive is he, he's playing with fire especially as he buys in every year. He has been very lucky so far, unfortunately I found out the hard way

Will vaccinate ewe lambs against enzo this year as I had trouble with ewe lambs this spring , its costing 5€ ,
I thought sheep only suffered once from enzo, then were immune themselves even though they are infectious to other sheep the who are not immune

We had second offenders here when enzo was bad in the flock, needless to say they didn't get time to do it the third time, The lab told us at the time that
they could go on aborting....even after vaccination

toxo doesnt work like that...
the sheep have to consume the feces, as far as i am aware the cat is a necessary intermediate host (theres 2 other guys on here that can enlighten us further) and the old practice of putting out a ewe or aborted foetus doesnt work with toxo.
