Healthier Junk Food

hi,

just wondering what sort of stuff people on the forum would have for a treat if on a weight-loss hunt at the moment, or what they'd have at the weekends, or even list what you think is better than other junk food..

currently eating as healthy as possible but cant do that 24/7 so i when looking for for a treat i think having, snax crisps or jaffa cakes or a tangle twister would be better than alot of other crisps or biscuits or ice cream as they are all fairly low in kcals and fat etc. probably not much better but a bit better. i generally would snack on grapes and pistachious nuts but cant snack on that all the time

manhattan popcorn also

most will probably advise you to avoid most of them foods, but if you absolutely have to have a treat why not have something you already like but in small doses? that's what i've been trying to do, hard at first but you can think of it as a reward. cant stress the small doses enough though. hope this helps

You can usually work a treat into your calories once a week or whatever. Lifestyle changes arent about depriving yourself of things you love, its all about portion control and eating well the majority of the time. You could try a few squares of dark chocolate. Fruit with greek yogurt and honey. Roasted chickpeas with different spices etc are lovely. You can buy them in health food shops too, or other healthier snacks.

Good quality burgers with home made wholemeal spelt bread buns. Pizza made with wholemeal spelt flour dough. Potatoe & sweet potatoe wedges, tapioca/rice pudding, custard & fruit. polenta made with milk & honey. Sugar is a natural foodstuff, have your treats just make them yourself so are not full of additives, flavour enhancers, etc.

Hi OP, your treats are generally the best out there. Granola Nibbles are lovely too and not as additive filled as some of the other low cal treats.

Also Weetabix Oat Chocolate bars are low cal and tasty. Not the healthiest but tasty.

What they are is a low weight bar, only 26g so less than half of what is in a typical bar. So they are pretty much the calories compared to other mini bars.

But I take it you probably mean for "what they are" as being a seemingly substantial bar, and this is true. I could wolf down a single twix finger faster than a curly wurly, even though its the same calories, so they can definitely benefit some people.

Other airy light weight bars are wispa, aero, malteasers.

Same with ryvitas, they are very light, 3 of them is the same weight as one slice of mc cambridges wholemeal bread.

Ryvitas can be used in place of tortillas for dips, some tomato based salsa dips are very low in caloires. I really like sesame ryvitas, they have a lot more flavour. I used to brand them as 'cardboard' like loads of people do, but I really like them now, I have had horrible own brand ones from lidl & tesco though.

When I did WW i used to snack on the low points crisps and choc I have more of a savoury tooth so my snacks were
From a 6 pack -Snax, Wheelies, Meanies, Chipstix and Tayto c&o
Ryvita with low faw cheese spread/grated low low with tomato
Popcorn
Pot yoghurt
mandrarins, apple slices with peanut butter
carrots/cucumber with hoummas
nuts/seeds
They do nice fruit slices in Lidi that are individually packed
Belvita biccies are nice too

I also have to start back on a low Carb diet eating way too many white Carbs for my own good hate that bloated feeling my trouble is I hate eating in the morning and eat way too much at night.

well after a week of been back to healthy eating and working out more i still was able to get in the odd treat throughout the week.. snax crisps, popcorn and tangle twister etc.. i have still made progress and dropped weight this week.
i have been eating very good though on top of those treats. ive also cut way down on carbs or if eating carbs ive made sure if had bread or pitta or whatever for lunch id have have non-carb for dinner, or else the other way around whereas before i used to be eating probably too much carbs luch and dinner etc.
hit the gym 5 days this week so i suppose healthy eating on top of alot of excercise its ok to get the treats in on some of the days

It's shocking the amount of carbs in our diet at my work canteen they had a stuffed baked potato, veges and two scoops of mash on the menu another day they gave me vege carbonara, veg and chips with it naturally enough felt so stuffed and sleepy that afternoon not worth eating all those carbs in one go
