Irish Derby

7 horses declared :
Camelot, Imperial Monarch, Astrology, Akeed Mokeef, Born to Sea, Light Heavy, Speaking of Which.

Plenty of rain around this weekend so I'd imagine the going will be soft. Therefore I can see an upset, maybe... !!

I'm going to take on Camelot with his stable companion Imperial Monarch. Handles heavy, unlucky in French Derby and has plenty of class about him. Not sure who'll ride him yet. Worth a 10er anyway.

If the ground was fast I'd probably have gone for Welds Speaking of Which, who seems to be improving rapidly, but I'd be wary of him staying now.

Camelot may be hard to beat, but I'll always take on such a short price fav

That's a pity, the race had a great shape for each-way punters with 8-11 runners. Also the "without Camelot" market would have been interesting e/w with 9-11 runners. Still, all the main contenders have stood their ground and it should still be an interesting and informative race. At least Camelot wasn't taken out, that would have been a disaster.

Weld said he will pull Speaking Of Which out if any further rain falls.

He's definitely out so as the forecast seems to be awful.
Pity, gonna be a poor turnout.

Astrology is surely to risky to back after his flop at Ascot last week. Value for me in the w/o market is Light Heavy at 13/2. This has been his aim for a long time having skipped the Epsom showpiece he should go well at a price. Dont think any will get near Camelot though. Will be doubling him up with Novelist in the Deutsches Derby on Sunday.

How big a concern is the ground for Camelot?

If it gets to bad they will pull him out. Doubt they would risk his unbeaten record running him on ground he cant handle.

I wonder is the possibility of heavy ground is the reason they kept Imperial Monarch in ??
I think IM would win this if Camelot doesnt run....

I'm more interested as to why Ladbrokes have not shown up prices yet. Camelot was 1/4, now 1/3. Imperial 8/1 and backed in as close as 5/1
Weather supposed to be ok but if it rains Camelot will be pulled I say

had a punt on Astrology @ 80/1 on Betfair
if Camelot gets pulled, I'll still be getting 16/1 with the 80% RF.

Why oh why would the race Camelot on heavy ground?? I really don't get O'Brien sometimes, huge risk, could easily bottom the horse if it turns into a slog.

The clerk reckons it could be good to soft by tomorrow. The curragh dries out very quickly. Aob said today that ground may not be ideal and imperial could be a doubt with a shoe problem

So there could be 5 runners if the ground is heavy - delightful.

What are they playing at running Astrology so soon again, the horse obviously wasn't over his Derby exertions at Royal Ascot and now there running him in another tough race (in ground that they reckon the horse doesn't handle) today 20 days after blowing up at Ascot.

BAFFLING!
