I don't think any of the Irish lads will be needing accommodation in Kiev anymore.

Guys,

Was anyone on the 2am train from Poznan to Warsaw last Sunday night (the first train to Warsaw after the Ireland vs Croatia game)? I saw a fair few Irish on board so I'm guessing it's possible.

If anyone was there then can they confirm whether the First Class carriage (no.24) was or wasn't actually there? We couldn't find it and I'm raising a complaint but obviously if it was there then that changes things.

Thanks.

For instance you can take http://www.polskibus.com/en/ from Poznań, Dworzec Górczyn to
Łódź, Dworzec Kaliska (Railway station) and then taxi to the airport calling one of following phone numbers (you can ask for english speaking driver):
  • 42 6 300 200
  • 42 6 400 400
  • 42 632 32 32
(Found them here: http://lotnisko.lodz.pl/pl/strona/Dojazd_taksowka/90 - the website shows how to get to the airport by bus (pol. Dojazd autobusem) or train (pol. Dojazd pociągiem) as well )

Polskibus uses Van Hools, they are quiet, comfy, air con with wifi on board. NOTE: you cannot buy ticket from the driver, it has to be done over internet. Buses are big and red

To get to Dworzec Górczyn again you can take a taxi or if you like Poznań public transport tramway line 5, 8 or 14 ( -> GÓRCZYN ) Polskibus stop is located at bus terminal, just outside tramway station.

You may also go to Łódź by train.
Use website: http://rozklad-pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en?
There are information about connections:
- from Poznan Glowny (main railway station)
- to Lodz Kaliska (main railway station)

From Łódź Kaliska you should go by Taxi (as Krzysztof wrote in previous post)

You have a lot of connections from Poznan to Lodz by train (but only few direct)
Don't use TAXI from Poznan to Lodz Airport!!!!
It will extremaly expensive (miniumum 800 Euro!!!!). Ticket by train maximum 120 pln (30 Euro)!!!
I dont know cost of taxi from Lodz Kaliska Station to Airport, but cost should be reasonable (max 30-40 euro).

If you need support in buing train tickets - use Volunteers, they are in main Hall of Poznan Glowny railwaystation.

I dunno the carriage number but there was a 1st class carriage. It was the first carriage until they added on an additional 2.

Using polski bus is your best option, tickets are 30 zl. They are direct and drop you at the train station, a taxi from Lodz Kaliska is about 25 zl (if even).

If you are getting a train, leave yourself a bit of room. If you go indirect you the stop over in Kutno is typically 9 minutes, the next train from Kutno to Lodz Kaliska may not be for over an hour (I only know because I got caught out when we traveled from Lodz to Poznan). Train tickets cost 66 zl or 110 zl if you get the more lavish train, faster and much nicer (only runs once or twice a day).

A taxi is about will cost you a lot. Its 2.5 hours.

I know it's a couple of weeks ago, but from the the platform in Warsaw was it at the right end of the train or the left end?

I joined the platform at around coach 10, and knowing we were 24 we kept moving down the train to the end with the higher number, trouble was that we got to the first class carriage there (which was something like 18) and then there were a couple of sleeper carriages and nothing else, but we didn't have time to check out the few carriages the other way from where we'd started.

I didnt see it was two weeks ago (after the Croatia game), the extra carriage thing was on the train to Warsaw after the Italy game.

I was with 5 other lads and they kept on saying we sat outside the toilets on first class. I dont remember seeing a first class on the train at all, we were on the top carriage and walked through the whole train looking for a seat. Outside the toilets is where we ended up, i'll send other people a text (still on holiday) and pm you later. Don't remember seeing it myself.

Cheers. Yeah we ended up sitting (or trying to sit) by the toilets as well. Not one of the most enjoyable nights of my life.
