Might be the mast at Treenageragh, Kiltimagh. Licensed to John McDonagh. Frequencies are 49, 52, 55 and 58. Slight difference in frequencies for two (48 and 54) you have listed.

See this document. See section "Deflector licenses offered". UHF channel numbers are in the second last column.

Was in Castlebar a few weeks back and the deflector was still carrying UK channels but TV3 had been replaced by a (badly written) message telling people that the Subs (which they hadnt bothered collecting since 2009 !!!) were now due.

TBH anyone paying the subs at this stage would be either
1) Incredibly honest
2) A fool
3) Both of the above

Only some deflectors carried TV3. Most of the area served by the Balla deflector already had it so they probably didnt see the need ?

Attached a recent picture of a TV shop front window (Expert chain) in Westport Co. Mayo advertising (on the right-hand side of window) the so-called - "BBC Analogue switchoff May 2012"
(The Mayo deflector closures this month are of course nothing to do with the BBC)

OMG, completely arseways. The UK switch off is also October, earlier than ours, on the 10th.

No doubt referring to the switching-off of the local deflectors and the loss of the analogue UK channels from them. If I lived in the area I'd be regarding it as an (unofficial) ASO, the convenience of having the 3/4 analogue UK channels at all TVs/VCRs etc. thru the existing aerial and now the cost to get the channels back at each TV point - STBs/PVRS and maybe dish and extra co-ax cabling.

Oct 10th is stage 1 with the switching-off of analogue BBC2, the rest go in the early hours of Oct 24th - the same date as our ASO.

Indeed. I can't speak for the Covies but back in the day in Castlebar, many folks would refer to the UK suite of channels simply as 'the BBC' .... e.g 'I hear ye have the BBC at home now..'. The switch off of the deflectors is indeed the end of an era.

Yes. Also ASO in the area for TV3 as its analogue signal was never provided from the local RTENL relays, only MCTV's deflector system.

As far as I know we get/got our tv3 from truskmore (channel 62 I think). When I used to scan the tv on uhf only 1 tv3 came in along with 2 tg4 (castlebar and truskmore). 1 of each rte1, net2 (castlebar) & 1 of each bbc1, bbc2, utv & ch4 (balla)

Only 270 customers of deflector systems? Obviously and understandably they weren't counting the significant* number of folks who hadn't paid the subs.

Still, nobody even attempted to make a case for those licenses to be retained. An impossible case to make for sure.

(*A very large proportion of houses in south Mayo and north Galway have big UHF aerials pointed to the deflector in Balla - admittedly many also have Sky dishes or UPC aerials too).
