Hope someone can help me, my 02 Yaris VTI (1.0 Litre) struggles on hills and when I de accelerate (on corners and roundabouts) and then try to accelerate again it goes really slow, it eventually picks up again and is fine until i de accelerate again. I have changed the filters and plugs and am at a loss now to know what's wrong. Money very very tight at the moment so would like to TRY and solve this myself without going to a garage on less I really have to. Anyone any ideas???

Could be heaps of things but I'd be looking at plugs followed by plug leads for a start.

No Engine light on?

Has it been serviced recently?

does the engine race even though progress is slow?

If so, could be the clutch expiring.

Good point.

I was assuming that when the OP mentioned going "really slow", they meant the car and the engine revs, but perhaps not.

Yes the engine can race and you can have your foot to the floor for several hundred yards before she picks up speed, it's always happens after I've down shifted and try to go back up again in gears as I gather speed so it could be the clutch. thanks for your help lads. So before I start wailing here, how much are we talking for a new clutch?

Hi Muck, it's been happening for over a month>>... I know I know I really should have had it looked at before now but seriously can't afford it, but maybe I'll have no choice in the end.

It wouldn't be cheap I'm afraid.

Standard price for getting a clutch done I'm afraid - there's a good bit of work involved in changing a clutch! A decent independent should be able to do it for less, but you'll be doing well to get it done for less than €350.

it wont last much longer...you will get stranded if you keep driving it. Sorry fro your trouble.
