I am a fair bit away from that yet. Id presume though if you have done your medical and got the call you have passed your medical.

7 or 8 (possibly 9) Ambulances needed at this tragic event. Very sad news. Happened in Bailieborough in Cavan. In relation to response times/resources etc, would be interesting to know where the Ambulances came from, how long it took them, were any involved or about to carry out pts work before they got the call? |

It's within about 15 minutes of Virginia ambulance station (1 crew), 25 mins from Cavan (1-2 crews) and Castleblaney (1 crew and possibly a PTS crew) and Ardee (1 crew) and 45 from Dundalk, Navan and Monaghan (2 crews each). The road to Cavan General from the location is abysmal, so would not have facilitated a crew doing a quick drop and return. My thoughts are with the crews involved and the families of the deceased. All I will say is that this scene was handled extremely efficiently by all services, and we were not waiting very long on any resources. Well done to all the services involved. Let's just give a thought to all those affected by this horrible tragedy. |

I was due to start my EMT course May 2011, it was cancelled due to lack of numbers and moved forward to Oct 2011 with exams early 2012. When i heard of the ICO positions i was gutted thinking id missed a good chance, ive just read this entire thread and i dont know if that was a blessing in disguise. Id have gone nuts at the waiting! Open to correction but the jobs were supposed to be in operation feb 12 and still lads waiting to be called? I got my EMT and have been looking for jobs since. Lately been looking at voluntaries so to keep / build skills. But my fulltime job means i work weekends and from what im told the voluntaries arent really interested if you can only do some weekdays. Ive sent emails out anyway, just waiting on replies.
Little bit of a rant there so im sorry for that ![]() Will be following this thread and forum with great interest. If anyone has any tips id gladly accept them |

Well, when people are out of work, like myself, a little bit of waiting won't matter. These posts ARE happening. We have our start date, so there is no problem.
As regards the voluntaries, there's bound to be one of them in a position to accept you. Try St. John Ambulance. |

Id be amazed if a vol turned away someone just because they are not available weekends. In fact if they did, their probably not worth joining. I'd much rather be on a panel and waiting for the call than waiting for a recruitment campaign to begin. Best of luck to all those starting in July.
