Any idea as to why the fan is blowing cold air instead of warm air, It is not a climate control device, just a dial reading 18-26degrees and it only blows cold now for some reason, Rad temp ok etc. I'm perished in the car!!!!

Are you sure that the car has enough coolant?

Did the heat stop working gradually or did it suddenly stop working?

Ya it seemed to stop working from one day to the next, when I say enough coolant, i mean the bottle with pink liquid which is for the rad, is there any other coolant container? I presumed it's all the same coolant circulating.

I would suspect that it might be a computer control problem. The next thing that I would try is disconnecting the battery (for 5 mins) and reconnecting it to see if that fixes it...

i thought the heater flaps were manually controlled by the dial I turn and not by onboard computer? Mine is not climate contol so maybe that is what you are thinking about

I tried as you suggested anyway, and it worked!!! but it's not perfect, it was blowing hot instead of cold for awhile but eventually it started working again so maybe it's a temp fix, Is there a motor that moves the flap so? maybe this is sticking or somthing.

I have the same problem with the same car only the passangers side is fine but blowing hot on the drivers side even when both zones are turned to low...

On old cars there is a mechanical link. the Passat uses motors. you can check if the flaps are moving by turning on the ignition (push in to run position but don't start the car). you should hear a soft clicking noise from within the dash. This is the control flaps moving.

EDIT: I have only seen this in a climate control model but I believe that the heat control system works in the same way but only single zone.

If its got numbers, I'd imagine it's climate control, just not digital

Ie it's thermostatically controlled if you can select a temperature
