I liked him before he became Labour leader, then found him extremely unimpressive but gave him a chance for a bit as I felt it wasn't fair to compare him to his predecessor who is a pretty charismatic guy IMO - but no, Gilmore is just a weak presence. Met him - he didn't seem good with people at all.

I don't think he's an absolute **** though - it seems like it's almost mandatory to say that about any politician who's in government.

Is it because he is almost always apoplectic with rage whenever he speaks about any topic that may cross his path? Gets a bit annoying after a while IMHO.

Himself and Kenny should go into a darkened room with a bottle of whiskey and an early 90's Now That's What I Call Music! tape.

Perhaps its because he is such a bad lier? Because of his contempt for the intelligence of the public? Because he makes grandiose statements like this knowing that he is a minor politician from a minor country and is so far outside the inner circle of Europe that whatever he says/thinks/does is meaningless. He's a bit like Michael McDowell without the charm

"The Tánaiste has given his absolute assurance that there will be no change to the text of the European fiscal treaty following growth talks at last night’s EU summit."

Unless...unless he actually believes himself?
I was interested up to the highlighted point.

If you find Michael McDowell charming (), you shouldn't over-concern yourself too much about your opinions of anyone.

He's slightly more tolerable than that man with the bloated face and 5 chins, Pat Rabbitte. Still an arrogant champagne socialist though.
