I don't anyone is comparing Jedward to bigger Irish music icons. They're perfect though for Eurovision - camp, fun nonsense. Sure the act is a bit vacuous but they appear to be enjoying themselves, they make a number of people a bit happier and they've got a nice little niche. Good for them.

They're not mentally vacant at all. They work the crowd very well and have almost everyone onside.

It's opinions like this that I really despise. If you think the Jedward are the people Ireland needs to be ashamed of, you really need to open your eyes.

They are nice guys who make lots of time for their fans, they don't smoke, don't do drugs and afaik they don't drink. The country could do with a lot more role models like them

If jedward do win and huge If in fairness. Where would you say will host the show in Ireland for 2013.??

I think the o2 would not suite it, The Grand Canal would be too small. So for me it would be the Citywest Convention Centre

I've often asked this and have yet to get a good enough answer tbh.

I get why people might not like them. I get why some people get agitated by them.

But that utter hatred they get drives me crazy. There's plenty of talentless people out there who have carved careers out in the media industry and don't get hatred. I get why people might say "Jesus, I don't like them", but I don't understand the hatred they get at all.

I have a feeling if you asked them, they would be the first to admit they weren't the best singers. But they work hard and they compensate. They are exactly what Eurovision needs nowadays; some people seem to be deluded enough to think a "good" act will ever want to represent Ireland again, and a "good" song is enough without an OTT performance. Jedward are perfect for Eurovision, which is not about the song but the performance.

Ultimately I think it boils down to begrudgery; if I could make a lot of money and become quite famous for something I wasn't very good at but enjoyed immensely, I'd be all over it. And at the end of the day, they are one of our most successful Eurovision entries in something like 15 years. So people who give out about how we should be ashamed to be sending them and say we need to send "proper" acts need to take a step back and realize that Europe are voting for them and obviously really like them. It stinks of "I don't like them so no one else does, and if they do, they are idiots" elitism...

Watched it there this evening. Jedward put on a good performance and deserve their shot in the final. I also thought the Romanian entry was good.

Belgium were unlucky to lose out imo.

Jedward's song last year was better but this one is still good. i think we have a good chance this year because they built up such a fanbase across europe. would be wondefull for our country if we got to host it next year

That could be a potential problem in the unlikely event of us hosting next year. I can't think of anywhere big enough. I suppose we'd just have to make do with the O2 and scale down the production and attendance.

Tomorrows semi-final looks pretty boring apart from Sweden. They put all the good songs on on Tuesday. I think Ireland will do well this year with being 23rd. I have no idea how the uk stand this either as they're singing first. The song is good but boring.

Would the Aviva not possibly be the place if Ireland were to win?
I wonder if Jedward will represent again next year until we manage to win.

All this talk about where we'd host it is a bit much. Everyone was the same last year too. I don't think we will win this year, it would be great if we did but the song isn't strong enough I think. Plus the Eurovision costs about 40 million to host and I know it would bring people to the country etc etc but really we can't afford it

It's kind of funny.. You see the lads doing summersaults in front of millions of people the other night, and then I'm driving to Portlaoise today and I see a sign saying that they will be appearing at the local sheep shearing festival in June... lol..

I agree with most of your post. But, the two lads are not talentelss. They have something. They wouldn't be where they are today without it.
Talent is a very individual and subjective word.

If I were to compare them to say, Mary Coughlan, then they have heaps of talent.
