Crossing into Canada

Hey,
I am planning on driving across the US/Canada border from Seattle to Vancouver and flying home from vancouver as flights are much cheaper out of there.
I was wondering if anyone has did this drive and what happens at the border?
Will I get stopped by both American and Canadian border officials?
Will it take long?
Also I am wondering if anyone has taken a boat from the US to Canada before?

Seattle to Vancouver you will be stopped by Canadian border officials only - usual stuff - review passport/visas, where are you going, why etc.
Like any crossing there are peak times...weekends are busier. Friday evenings especially. I've never been more than 20 minutes.
I have not done boat myself but lots of people do Seattle to Victoria trips, my folks included. I believe the Canadian border check is done when you arrive. I have done the reverse trip and the US border stuff was done in the ferry parking lot prior to leaving Canada.

Let me know if you have other questions.
