More than likely they did, I completely agree.
The club should have informed them and then they could have made a decision as to whether to play or not.
But they still should not have told a guy he couldn't play with them IMO once they realised there was a timesheet.

Just a point to mention that I didn't highlight in my original response, if the OP asked to play with us on the first tee, I would never decline.

But I am just thinking from the from my own perspective if I had been the OP. I would never dream of putting my name down beside 2 strangers for casual golf. Its just seems very strange to me. Then again, I like to play by myself sometimes. I can work on different aspects of the game and get alot of practice putting in.
