Following the successful launch of the Cork Branch last summer, a new branch of the WFA is to be started in Dublin.

The branch will be inaugurated at a meeting in the Lecture Theatre at Collins Barracks, (National Museum of Ireland), on Saturday, 25 February. Doors open at 2 pm for a 2.30 start.

The meeting will start with the formation of the branch, the election of its Officers and any other matters relating thereto. This will be followed by a talk on an aspect of the Great War, details still to be confirmed.

The meeting is open to all comers.

The branch is now set up - committee all set up.

It was great to see the recreations of uniforms and the explanations of the changing styles as the war wore on.
Interesting talk on the use of cavalry in the war - their effectiveness and the changing tactics.

Just a heads up for our next meeting, Saturday 19 May, at the Lecture Theatre, Collins Barracks, doors open at 2 pm for a 2.30 start.

This months speakers is North Wales Branch member Trevor Adams.

Trevor was born and brought up in Belfast, but has been living in England, and now in Wales, since 1982.

Trevor will talk about the WWI connections of his family, a lot of which he has uncovered in the context of research into family history. The starting point is his grandfather who was in the 36th Ulster Division and died of wounds on the Somme at Thiepval, in July 1916. As well as that, one cousin was killed serving with the Canadian army, and another with the US army on the Aisne. A fourth cousin died at Ypres with the British.

Trevor has recently been to Thiepval Wood and will include some photos of the recent archaeological work there.

So, the talk in essence is the story of the four soldiers and, importantly, their families and what happened to them. More generally, it may help to give some information on family research in the WWI context."

You might like to know that on Sunday September 23rd @ 2.00 pm there will be a guided tour of Bully's Acre graveyard in the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham.
There are a number of ww1 war graves in the adjacent cemetery that may be of interest.
