Learner's permit - 1 month issue time?!

Hi guys,

I dropped my documents for the learner's permit into the local tax office today (Drogheda) and I was told it'd be around a month till I got it in the post. Clearly seeing my jaw drop the woman said it was previously a three month wait. That seemed odd as haven't heard anything like that before but I just left and as I suspected after checking on other threads here at least last year people were in some instances getting them on the very same day, or say a few days or a week later.

Is this situation normal nowadays or has anybody else experienced otherwise? With the stupid six month rule I obviously want to get it issued asap and can't see why it takes a month for them to take the photo I provided and stick it on the green card! Am very tempted to march back in tomorrow and ask for them to give everything back and go to another office if it turns out they're the only one with such a ridiculous turn around time.
Thanks

A month? That is nuts. I got mine in about 3-4 days. Not sure if they'll allow you to cancel an application already submitted just because you are unhappy about the wait time, but its worth a shot.

Unless it's just in that office, I applied for mine last Thursday and got it back yesterday. I'm in Dublin tho and it was by post aswell.

So it's as I suspected... Can you apply to any office or does it have to be the local one? No point going back in to get it if the other offices won't accept it if I did somehow manage to get my documents back.

Some of the wait times in Drogheda have been unreal. I'd one pupil wait 9 weeks Apparently they are sent up to Dundalk.

Navan was about a week waiting time, it's about 3 weeks just now I believe
