Ultimate Frisbee in Ireland: getting started

Ultimate Frisbee

If anyone wants to get involved in Ultimate Frisbee in Ireland, here are a few good ways to try it out!

What is ultimate frisbee?
Ultimate is a non-contact team sport, played by thousands around the world. It blends various features of sports such as Soccer, Basketball, American Football and Netball into an simple and demanding game. To compete at top levels, Ultimate players require high levels of fitness, speed, agility and stamina.

Ultimate is a seven-aside sport played on a narrow football-sized pitch (100x37m), with two end zones, both 18m deep.

Players cannot run with the frisbee, but have 10 seconds to pass to one of their team-mates in order to keep possession for their side.
A point begins with both teams lined up at the front of opposing end zones. The team starting on offense receives a long initial throw (known as a "pull") from the team starting on defense.
A point is scored when a player catches the frisbee in the end zone the opposing team is defending.

Try it out
There are 3 ways to try ultimate frisbee out.

The 1st, and most popular way, is to go to a training session run by your university team. A list of Irish university teams, below

If you're not in university, you could try and join a club team. Not all clubs recruit beginners though, but there are more details in the list of Irish club teams, below

The 3rd way to try ultimate frisbee out is to take part in Dublin Summer League. This is an annual league held on Monday nights from June to August and is a great way to try out Ultimate Frisbee in a casual way.

Is there a team in Wicklow?
I live in Greystones and work in Wicklow town. I'm fairly inexperienced - played an into tourney in Cork but I'd be interested in joining if there is a club near these areas.
