I have my house insured it is up for renewal in October , i have just had a an alarm installled with monitoring would i get a discount on my insurance at present or is it worth trying to get some money back >???

You should get a discount refund mid year (I did with Zurich). Check the conditions that come with the discount. Some increase the claims excess if there is a theft and the alarm hasn't been set, some will go as far as to exclude the cover.
