O'Leary explained the reason for that recently when he was on the LLS. He said that they used to be inundated with applications from 8 year old wannabees from all round the country. They introduced a €50 application fee to weed these out and it is refunable to successful applicants.

Yeah for the first time ever the new cadets have to stump up some of the money considering it costs about 65k to train and get the licences in order to apply for an airline job,Aerlingus scheme will still be cheaper than the Ryanair one which on average costs someone 100k approx.

Friend of mine went and did this "Assessment" they basically took him on a 2 hour long driving test and failed him on stupid things (one was not indicating coming off a mini roundabout - as if you would be able to in a truck!) then of course came the "oh, well, we'll put you on the gold standard list - if you give us 250 euros for more lessons!"
It not only knocked his confidence in his driving - it also took advantage of his desperate situation. I wouldn't have let him sign up for this bull if I had seen this thread earlier. It's a pure scam. |
