Onkyo tr606 hdmi issue

I have a problem with my pc hdmi input to the amp. I've checked the 4 input slots and the cables and other sources work fine in all slots.
However the pc input will show the picture while booting up to the microsoft xp logo and then it decides "mode not supported", regardless of slot.
Amp is 4 years old and got the caps replaced last year, so is it likely they are going/gone on the hdmi board again?

Can't remember, it's been a year since I set it. Been working fine until a week ago.

try setting the output resolution to 1280*720 @50Hz and see if it works

Right, had to borrow a monitor so I could see the pc so only getting to this now.
res was at 1068 * 768
I've tried several settings and custom settings but still get no picture (inc 1280*720 @50hz)
I do get the windows start up logo when I switch it on.

I have the hdmi cable going directly from pc to tv so the amp isn't the problem.
The hdmi cabel is sound. The only thing left to check there is the dvi- hdmi adaptor.

I have a dvi - 15pin adaptor to connect to a pc monitor and it works fine.
I also done a system restore to before when the problem started.

I wonder if it's worth changing the video card to a hdmi output, but I'm guessing I'll still have the same issues with resolution.

Any ideas would be welcome.
