Science Degree

Hey guys, I'm looking into doing science in either UCD or TCD. I'm just wondering, in TCD are there opportunities for work experience or else studying abroad? Also, what are the labs like, are they high quality?

At the minute it seems like UCD has a few more opportunities for their students when they are studying, but in saying that I havn't spoken to anyone in TCD, so that's why I'm here!

No, but there's loads of drinking and brazzers in Dublin.

Or so I've heard.

Do you want employers to slam their doors in your face ?

I'm in UCD doing science. I would know a large chunk of my year, no one went away. Study abroad is available, but really not as popular as it's made out.....

Open days and prospectuses like to dress things up a lot!

Studying abroad will be variable depending on what you want to do in 3rd or 4th year, but I'm in third year now and have a few options for travelling to do my final project (not sure if I will yet). Plus you can get involved in Operation Wallacea if that's what you're into. I have a friend doing Zoology who is already looking into doing her 4th year project in Indonesia.

Edit: I also meant to say, you should probably look at thread "Science TR071". It's about 3 years old so there's not much that isn't in there somewhere, plus you're more likely to get replies there since it's closely followed by most of the TR071 boardsies.

I recommend science in trinity. The BSI building just opened up and its tremendous. Im in third year chem.

We'll be moving to the new labs on the top floor next year hopefully. If you do any of the biological fields then you'll be in the BSI building anyway.

Not all of them. Botany, Zoology I think and Microbiology for one. But those buildings are probably more fit for purpose than what the Wellcome Institute offers so there's less of a need to move those too!
