150 BHP Golf problems 2003

Hey, my car has suddenly developed a problem.

No power at all 'til 2200 rpm and then it pulls away.

Read fault codes, there was only 2 stored faults, crank sensor and boost sensor. Both deleted and didn't return after a drive.

Tried a new MAF sensor but it made no difference.

No smoke, loads of power over 2200rpm, filters all changed within last 2 months.

Any pointers?

Did you try disconnect the MAF sensor and see what it does, maybe a bad connection.

Well I tried a new maf sensor and it made on difference.

I found a vacuum pipe damaged going on to the waste gate of the turbo but I don't think it was worn through.. I cut off and replaced the damaged section

But did you try rev it when you had the MAF sensor disconnected, even if you tried the new sensor you still may have a connection problem. Have you rechecked the PCM for any more fault codes, one might have popped back up again?
Check are veins in the turbo moving, you'll only see the actuator and arm moving. Try move them by hand when the engine is off and see if it is free. Check the pipe that comes off the VGT unit and make sure its ok. Disconnect the pipe while its running and and see if there is a vacuum on it.

That's the checking I would be doing. Check the piping to the (I think) N249 valve, it has some wires and 3 air connections, one to the turbo, one to intake and one I think to the recirc (N75?) valve.

Is the actuator on the turbo being pulled in at idle?
Stick a vacuum gauge on it, should be 22" or greater.
A code or better description of the boost would give a better indication

This morning it was back to normal again.

I doubt it is gonna stay that way though. Was chatting a VW head and he seemed to think it was more likely that it was a MAP sensor giving dodgy readings.

The symptoms were, very poor power up to 2200 rpm and then all of a sudden loads of power (for a diesel that is )
