Hi Black Swan..
I work on a few different Forums....My job there is to hunt down, find, and delete spammers.
Now,these Forums are phpBB3 based, but We have software installed on them,,so the if the spammers IP,email addy,or username shows up on StopForumSpam, they are automatically prevented from registering on the forums.
We also have something installed which monitors all the traffic that tries to log on to the forums, and you wouldn't beleive how often those spammers try. Could be a few hundred times an hour. so that would make Me think that it is indeed automated spamming.
Not sure if you have anything like that installed here.....But,,it works great for Us...
