jogging for losing fat

Hi

ive injured my elbow a while ago and am waiting to get it seen to, ive just being doing the threadmill in the gym to keep myself in shape. The gym instructor was telling me the jogging isnt much good for losing fat and keep in shape, surely this cant be 100% true? you burn calories while jogging so it has to be doing something? any experts here care to explain?

well to be honest theres not a whole lot else you can do without the use of your elbow, although you could use cross trainers and stair machines etc.
I would say that you'd be better off if you went for a run outside, treadmills are ALOT easier. Get on to google maps and make a circuit for yourself and you can add on to it as you get better. At least when you feel like giving up you have to keep going otherwise you're in the middle of nowhere. Also, make sure you dont let your diet slip.

i just found it a bit of a strange thing to say, im no expert on keeping fit, but i was burning 400 calories a day on the threadmill according to the display, so surely that was a decent workout for burning fat, but maybe im wrong

A lot of the machines over estimate. But that's not the issue.400 cals isn't really a whole lot. If you were doing this 3 or 4 times a week, its an average of 200 cals daily. Which the same as a two pieces of bread.

If your diet isn't in order then a small bit of running isn't going to do a whole lot.

When I was out with a shoulder injury, was in the gym, sling and all for a few weeks. I just kept on the near horizontal cycling machines, doing intervals from light to hard out sprints. I also used the leg weight machines with the sling on, but this is probably very bad advice, I was just sick of having another injury and im stubborn as a mule.

to be honest id be still well able to do leg weight machines - im just suprised that jogging is suppose to be not great for losing fat, i know its no real indicatr but you work up alot more of a sweat jogging than you do with weights,

how many calories would you burn form an average weight circuit, what makes doing weights so much better

If you want to lose weight, it's your diet you need to sort out. Obviously exercising will help, but I don't think you should be worrying about calories burned when jogging vs. calories burned doing weights. There probably isn't much of a difference and I would say that what it amounts to will be fairly irrelevant.

What I'm trying to say is: switching from jogging to weights isn't going make much of a differencein relation to fat loss. The real work is done in the kitchen.
