Choosing a new Smart Phone - my Nokia 6230i has just died

Hi,

My Nokia 6230i screen has just (can still use the speed dials but can't read texts).

I could buy a refurb 6230i and use my iPod touch or I could buy an Android or Blackberry - not interested in the iPhone as I have the iPod touch.

I use the iPod touch for email, Facebook, Twitter, Weather. Would probably use Trip Advisor and other similar location based apps if I got a Smart Phone. Would like a decent camera if I went for the Smart Phone. Don't have much interest in FM radio. Need Bluetooth.

Formfactor - would like Touchscreen but am open to suggestion
Connectivity - Mobile Internet and Wifi
Operator - am out of contract with O2. Most family/friends are on Vodafone. Have Eircom for homephone so emobile might be of interest. Would like to spend €40 or less per month with adequate data.
Have always had a bill pay - Is there any reason to change?
Free to €200 would be the price range.
Short contract would be good.

If you're after an android and can afford it then go for the Samsung Galaxy SII. It's available free on many networks as long as you sign up to a contract for usually 2 years (ranging from 40-80 euro per month depending on the network.
I personally have a BlackBerry 9700 with an ipod touch and love that combination.

Before you join/move networks maybe test out the signal using a free pre pay sim form that network so at least you know you can get good 3G signal where you live work and play.

Good tips about the coverage. Try either (eMobile or Meteor) and Three just - eMobile is the same as Meteor and you already know that O2 and Vodafone work in your area.

The two top android phones at the moment are HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy SII. The iPhone 4 is probably going to be out of date soon and it's primarily a 24 month contract AND, with Meteor, a more expensive tariff.

The Meteor contracts seem to be better than eMobile (even with eircom discount).

I'm really liking the look of the Smart 35 contract on Meteor - 200 mins/200 txts/1gb data for 30 euro per month on a 12 month contract.

Go through Fatcheese to get a rebate of 30 - 40 euro. PM me if you'd like more information on this.

The Samsung Galaxy SII is currently out of stock on Meteor and the HTC Sensation isn't available yet. I'm expecting one (or both) to be in stock next week.

Sorry, I meant online. The Galaxy S2's are out of stock and the Sensations haven't yet appeared.

Some people have got the Sensations from CarPhoneWarehouse - although, officially, they aren't supposed to be selling them yet!!!

We got them a few weeks ago. We had no warning that their not meant to be sold so i guess they should be sold.

Do have in mind that CPW is an independant phone retailer so they might work out stuff differently from other carriers

Ill tell you something though its a lovely phone to use

Might not be the thinnest or perform as well in benchmarks but its a pleasure to use
