Flight path into Dublin

Evening all,

I live in the north east and some nights aircraft fly overhead, according to flight radar 24 the planes are around 2-3000 feet above ground.
I was wondering why they use this flight path landing into Dublin.

Aircraft could be circling overhead due to congestion at Dublin airport. Or, if runway 10 is in use, they could be approaching it via the north-east or south-east.

There may be maintenance on the main runway.

Sometimes lads the simple solutions are the best!

The wind over the last few days has necessitated the use of Runway 16.

OP, Runway 16 is not the "main" runway at Dublin. Landings on 16 do not happen very often in the overall scheme of things.

Aircraft using it would be at a lower altitude over the North East than if they using runway 10/28.

Reasons for using 16 would primarily be strong southerly winds or the closing of the main runway due to maintenance.

Got it in one...the wind has been between 130-160 degrees.....as the crosswind component increases,we switch to rwy 16

The overlay work on 10/28 is now finished

as in today, forecast wind is 170/16 so expect rwy 16 to be used.......heavies may have to use rwy10 due rwy distance available on rwy16.
